  • Congratulations and kudos to Pattie Piotrowski and the CARLI team for a great annual meeting. Pattie assisted Anne in hosting and did an excellent job. Pattie, along with CARLI, was a gracious host and was complimented on her professionalism and impeccable style. Anyone who couldn’t attend the conference can see the CARLI Annual Meeting video linked above.

Updates:

AI Symposium

• Blanca and Shekinah will working with the Public Services Committee for the AI symposium.
• The symposium will be Tuesday, 4/15/25 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Sessions will be 50 minutes with 10 – minute breaks.
• Mitchell will join Blanca and Shekinah in this effort.
• The three will meet in early December to prepare their abstracts which will need to be submitted by Friday, 1/17/25.

Side note: Blanca shared the tool Schej It as a good way to check people’s availability.

DEI Committee Table Talk at the CARLI Annual Meeting

• Mitchell, Shekinah, and Margaret shared insights from the DEI committee’s table talk. Ideas and conversation included work around student belonging, inclusiveness on some campuses, and frustrations on other campuses with leadership priorities.
• Shekinah mentioned that many are still compassionate about DEI work but fatigued.
• Mitchell shared about work on his campus with Safe Zone. The conversation at the annual meeting was rich and reflective. The conversation also led into the brainstorming session about the committee’s future work.

Discussion

Brainstorming Committee Projects

• In the October meeting, the committee discussed creating a reader’s advisory DEI resource to share with CARLI communities. Nicole reached out to Tony Diaz about sharing a reading list of Hispanic and Latin authors.  
• We had a detailed conversation about creating an annotated bibliography of books and articles highlighting DEI work for academic libraries and personal enlightenment.

• After confirming that everyone liked the BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) idea, the committee decided a good way to maintain momentum and energy was to first discuss resources internally over the next few months. Then we could look forward to building on thoughts and ideas that could come out of that dialogue. The Reforma links above could serve as a benchmark for how we would move forward in the future in collecting information and sharing information.
• There was also a suggestion raised that we when and if we move forward with the BYOB that we share short summaries from the books/articles recommended.

Decisions

• Minutes of the October 2024 meeting approved.
  • Motion to approve minutes by Shekinah.
• The December meeting is asynchronous.

Tasks Assigned

• Shekinah L. recorded the November meeting minutes.
• Jeanne is scheduled to record the January meeting minutes.
• All can share up to five books/articles on the Padlet created by Shekinah.
