CARLI Updates

  • CARLI staff are figuring out Consortia Manager, getting ready for fall selections from early October to November 15. Training will be provided prior to that once CARLI staff are ready.
  • Working on agreements with Mometrix and Third Iron; renewing Sage journals package. Will contact relevant institutions.
  • Wiley and Oxford University Press consortial ebook selections from FY24 are underway. Oxford stats had to be redone. • University of Illinois Press ebook titles now available via JSTOR.
  • CARLI discussion on cataloging on U.S. Federal documents on September 17, 2024.

CPC E-REsource Survey REsults

    • Many replied that in order to add new ongoing resources they would need to cancel something else.
    • Subject areas needing attention:  Allied Health, Nursing, Business, Religion, Education, Engineering, IT/Computer Science, etc.
    • Vendors of interest:  APA, Newsbank, Hein, DocuSeek, IBISworld, Third Iron, etc.
    • Specific content/types of content:  Wall Street Journal, Newspapers, Magazines, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, etc.
    • Desiring more options for resource types: streaming video, ebooks, journals, newspapers, etc.
    • Most respondents were interested in a central product trial.
    • Feedback on OA initiatives: ebook initiatives most popular.
    • OpenAthens was the most popular authentication software.
    • E-resource challenges were noted.
    • Questions and comments from CPC members followed with ideas for future versions of the survey, discussion of specific vendors of interest (Newsbank).  Probably discuss these result in more detail in coming months.

Annual Project

  • The committee began discussing possible ideas for an annual project. Ideas included:
    • AI Symposium proposed by Public Services Committee. That committee did a survey last year about generative AI. Decided it was bigger than just public services. Checking to see if other committees might be interested. What program topics might other committees be interested in? Vendors and AI implementation. CPC  leaning toward supporting this.
    • CMC interested in state database program, how to evaluate content whether it’s academic in nature, Alma issues. Wanted to know if CPC was interested. Some interest in this by CPC members. May be able to work on this in addition to AI Symposium if CMC decides to proceed.

Decisions

  • Minutes from the August 26, 2024 meeting were reviewed and approved.
  • Acknowledge with Public Services Committee that CPC is interested in AI Symposium idea, possibly virtual.
  • The meeting was adjourned at 12:03 p.m.
