Decisions

  • Minutes of the January 14, 2016 meeting were approved.
  • March 17 coincides with the CARLI IACRL Preconference so the March meeting will be moved to a new date.
  • At the next meeting in March, the committee will decide whether we will host an in-person event in April or May.  Jen Masciadrelli has contacted the I-Hotel about available dates.
  • The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 a.m.

Announcements

  • Jeffrey Archer described University of Chicago’s 1 year trial with an evidence based acquisitions model.
  • Niamh McGuigan mentioned that Loyola University is working with Oxford University Press on an evidence based acquisitions trial.
  • Chris Diaz is working with faculty from National-Louis University’s teacher preparation program to develop a small collection of circulating maker kits.
  • Columbia College Chicago and Loyola University Chicago are slowly building maker spaces.
  • Chris Diaz provided an update on their use of multiple user e-textbooks.  The books purchased are mostly monographs and not traditional textbooks but are required for courses.  While it’s not in their budget to provide these materials every quarter, they hope to continue once a year.  Usage statistics have been great and they hope this starts a conversation about textbook costs.

Tasks Assigned

  • Christophe Andersen will take minutes for the February 18, 2016 meeting.
  • Susan Prokopeak will send out an email by March 3 highlighting main points and ideas from the survey, along with possible next steps for moving forward.
