Conference Call

Announcements

  • The Dean at the University of Chicago Library is retiring.
  • William Rainey Harper College is seeking a new Associate Provost for Interdisciplinary Student Success.
  • The proposal for the patron-driven e-book platform is moving forward. Elizabeth announced that the license with EBL had been signed. I-Share members will have the option of loading the e-book records on a monthly basis.
  • Jen announced that they are setting up new I-Share libraries. They may be done by the end of January. There will be 86 in all once the new libraries are set up.
  • Elizabeth reminded the committee of the research subsidy program. The intent to propose is due February 3. Written proposals are due March 31.

Decisions

  • White paper will focus on weeding, taken from our three webinars.

Tasks Assigned

  • Todd volunteered to be minute taker for the meeting.
  • Kim is organizing the white paper going forward.

Discussion

  • John and Kim led a brief discussion of e-books in I-Share and their availability in discovery tools.
  • We discussed reviewing the minutes for the past meeting. Elizabeth announced that they were up on the wiki, but were not available to view. Some minor changes were suggested and made.
  • Elizabeth provided the details for the IACRL Pre-Conference. It will be held March 20, 2014 at the Oak Brook Marriott. The pre-conference is on assessment. Todd and Lynn will be doing brief presentations on assessment and Jen will talk about obtaining reports and other CARLI services. Elizabeth mentioned that anyone attending would need to register for the free pre-conference.
  • Elizabeth reported that the sub-committee for weeding/relocating materials had met and decided a who some of the speakers would be for webinars. These were sent out in an email before the meeting. Pam Thomas (ICC) and Connie Lee (Ill. College) will present at the first meeting (Feb./March?) Chad and possibly some others will speak at the second. Matthew Gorzalski (SIUC) and David Bottorff (U. of Chicago) will speak at the third. Dates will be established later.
  • The committee's Patron-Driven Acquisitions E-Book Forum was funded by CARLI. It will be held either June 2nd or 5th at either ISU or the iHotel in Champaign. There are fifteen people from three CARLI committees planning the forum.
