CONFERENCE CALL

Minutes

  • Ellen Corrigan was confirmed to take minutes this month.
  • The February 14, 2017 meeting minutes were approved.

Ongoing Project Status Reports

  • Tumblr:
    • Margaret noted that statistics are being tracked in two separate Google Sheets.
    • Matt commented on the difficulty of obtaining data for precise dates from month to month. He will continue to gather and record statistics on the 15th of each month for the rest of the term.
  • Digitized Book/Featured Image
    • Margaret asked about formatting for correct display in the front page news feed.
  • Impact of CARLI CCC Promotional Efforts
    • The committee agreed to defer discussion of suggestions for proceeding.
  • 2016-17 Annual Project on Shareable Metadata
    • Discussion of case study draft:
      • Alice plans to have her draft sent out by the end of the week. Her topic is legacy data cleanup, focusing on the small library experience.
      • Rebecca will be writing a draft case study on creating metadata from scratch for next month.
    • Plan for writing final report
      • The report on the annual project is due to the Board of Directors by May 31.
      • Margaret proposed brainstorming at the next meeting, after which she as Chair will draft the report. She also asked committee members to consider possible future goals related to the project.

Best Practices Documentation Updates

  • Discussion of revisions to image guidelines document
    • Amy explained her proposed changes to the “Guidelines for the Creation of Digital Collections: Digitization Best Practices for Images” document, updated to reflect Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) best practices. She will make the draft available in Google Docs for further additions (e.g., storage, digital preservation) and editing by committee members. Amy will work on revising the text digitization guidelines next, then revisit whether the specifications for text and images should be combined into a single document.
