Decisions:

  • Minutes of the June 5, 2015 meeting were approved prior to the meeting.
  • The Board accepted the I-Share Next Task Force’s recommendation to continue to move forward in the process of seeking a new Library Management System (LMS) to ultimately replace Ex Libris Voyager as the software that supports I-Share. 
  • The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 p.m.  

Announcements:

  • The Board congratulated Past Chair Dennis Krieb on receiving the Illinois Academic Librarian of the Year Award.
  • Susan Singleton announced her decision to retire as Executive Director of CARLI in July 2016. Susan will be working with the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Board of Directors on a plan for the next steps. 
  • There is no final information available about the state budget at this time. CARLI is continuing to operate under the 20% permanent budget reduction that we were asked to model for FY 2016. 
  • CARLI is awaiting the final revisions of the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Illinois, and the I-Share Participation Agreement from the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs. 
  • CARLI is proceeding with the next steps for 3 new I-Share Libraries. The libraries are: Black Hawk College, Moline; Meadville-Lombard Theological School, Chicago; and South Suburban College, South Holland.
  • CARLI will launch the new branding and logo at the Governing Directors and Annual Meeting this fall.
  • The Governing Directors' meetings will be held at the Illini Center in Chicago on October 28 and at the Illinois State Library in Springfield on October 29. 
  • The CARLI Annual Meeting will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center in Champaign on Friday, November 13. The Annual Meeting will celebrate the 35th anniversary of I-Share and the 10th anniversary of CARLI.
  • The calendar year 2016 e-resources selection cycle will open in mid-October.
  • CARLI staff have completed the emergency contracts for sole source and third party e-resources content that resulted from the loss of the library materials procurement exemption. The Board extended their thanks to the Business and E-Resources staff for their considerable work on the emergency contracts and RFP.
  • CARLI has delayed full testing of the newly redesigned e-resources selection system. We expect to conduct beta testing this fall with several vendors and a group of librarians participating. 
  • The Commercial Products Committee is planning a series of webinars presented by the major vendors providing resources to CARLI libraries on the specifics of working with their usage statistics tools. The initial session is being planned with EBSCO.
  • CARLI System Services staff have completed major software development on VuFind 2.5 and the eXtensible Catalog (XC) open-source project. Staff are setting up systems pointing to Production Voyager 9.1.1 in order to allow libraries to use this new service as a Beta test and provide us with feedback.
  • CARLI's Print Patron Driven Acquisition Project ended June 26, 2015. Through this project, patrons from 81 I-Share libraries requested a total of 3045 items. 
  • Patrons at 115 Governing member libraries accessed materials through the eBook Patron Driven Acquisition Pilot Project that ended in January 2015. Governing Members have perpetual access to the 3,858 ebooks that were purchased during the Pilot Project. CARLI members have browsed over 150,000 items and established over 35,500 loans since the Pilot Project began in May 2014. 
  • CARLI and Boopsie have agreed to offer special discounted pricing to I-Share libraries that wish to implement the mobile discovery interface. CARLI will work with the vendor contacts to arrange a product webinar. Libraries may be contacted directly by Boopsie representatives.
  • The I-Share Next Task Force has completed the initial draft of the Request for Proposal that will be submitted to the University of Illinois Purchasing Division. The Task Force will continue to meet to respond to questions from the Purchasing Office and the State Procurement Officer, and to gather additional details that will be included in the RFP.  
  • The current contract with the vendor providing delivery service through the Illinois Library Delivery Service (ILDS) is expiring June 30, 2016. A draft RFP for delivery service beginning on July 1, 2016 has been submitted to the University Purchasing Division for review. 
  • The Illinois State Library has been selected as a service hub for the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). The Illinois State Library will share Service Hub responsibilities with the Chicago Public Library, the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. 
  • Illinois Central College, Peoria will host the Forward Focus conference November 5-6. The theme is Constructing Our Future: Workplace Strategies for Community College Librarians.

Tasks Assigned: 

  • The Board will communicate with Dr. Pierre about the process for replacing the Executive Director. 
  • The I-Share Data Analytics Task Force will work with CARLI Committees to gather feedback on a document that will provide information and resources to libraries interested in using library data to improve library services.
