Garden Street Shibuya- CARLI Digital Collections Featured Image

A pastoral beautiful street scene hand colored and captured via lantern slide. I was drawn to this image mainly because of just how industrialized and fast-paced the area of Shibuya is now. The crowds, the spiralling steel and glass, the bright neon colored hues falling across the pavement all soundtracked retro sounds of Pizzicato Five, that's what pops into my head when the name Shibuya appears. But, this image from the 1880's stands in stark contrast with its dappled light, beautiful trees, and peaceful streets.
