Digital Services Coordinator - Waubonsee Community College

Under the direction of the Director of Library Services, the Digital Services Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing digital information services for the libraries. Typical responsibilities include creating, maintaining, and updating library online learning content; providing technical support to library staff; leading Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives and partnering to support Inclusive Access initiatives; as well as collaborating with student technology services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead oversight of affordable course materials initiatives and program development.
  • Provides leadership of efforts to inspire and recruit faculty to develop, adopt, and/or assess open educational resources for the benefit of students.
  • Coordinates initiatives to assist faculty with locating and adapting library resources and OER into their curriculum.
  • Raises awareness of open educational resources across the campus, encouraging and generating broad participation by departments, faculty, and students through close collaboration with the college.
  • Leads development and implementation of policies relating to copyright, open licensing, and attribution of Creative Commons licensed materials.
  • Collaborate with academic deans, faculty and library staff to implement and support projects associated with open education.
  • Works with commercial, open-source, and locally developed content management applications to create, manage, and promote digital information.
  • Serves as an advocate by providing professional development resources to include trends, standards, and best practices through a variety of platforms to multiple audiences.
  • Assists in the oversight of events and activities related to open education.
  • Provides web-based and on-site training to departmental staff, library staff, and stakeholders on support processes for open education initiatives.
  • Provides analytical data by compiling, analyzing, and reporting program impact.
  • Recommends and/or enacts change within the program based on the data and metrics utilized to measure the department's impact. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of regional and national trends, and the initiatives related to technology to digital services and open education initiatives.
  • Participates in state-wide committees, working groups, and task forces of staff concerned with the creation, description, and/or management of digital or educational resources.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate technical support and training necessary for effective library digital technology resource implementation and troubleshooting, working with a team of library employees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three years of experience of digital services, scholarly communications, open access, and OER.
  • Experience in academic libraries.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated training and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to perform accurately in detail-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of project planning, development, and evaluation.
  • Ability to work effectively both in the context of the team and independently under self-direction.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends and topics of interest in OER and affordable learning in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education, supporting research, publishing, course creation, professional development, or similar areas.
  • Working knowledge of learning management systems (preferably Canvas).
  • Knowledge of current and emerging library topics and trends, especially those relating to digital services and OER.
  • Demonstrated advocacy and outreach experience.
  • Experience with successful grant writing and funding.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues in open education, open textbooks, open access, copyright, and intellectual property.
  • Knowledge of instructional or curriculum design, including experience with learning management systems.
  • Experience with web-based publishing, presentation tools, and various media types.

Compensation: Placement on the salary schedule is dependent on qualifications. Qualifications include education and experience.
