Free Webinar Series: Libraries Transforming Communities: Models for Change for Academic Libraries

The American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office, the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) and the National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation (NCDD) invite academic library professionals to attend a free learning series that teaches several dialogue facilitation approaches and helps librarians position themselves to foster conversation and lead change on their campuses and beyond.

ThroughLibraries Transforming Communities: Models for Change, a two-year ALA initiative in collaboration with NCDD, academic library professionals can participate in three online learning sessions and one in-person workshop, all free of charge, between September 2017 and February 2018.

Attendees of this professional development training will learn to convene critical conversations with people with differing viewpoints; connect more meaningfully with library users and better meet their needs; and translate conversation into action.

Registration is currently open for three online sessions:

Each session will be recorded and archived for free on-demand viewing on ALA's Programming Librarian website.

Individuals who view all three webinars, live or recorded, will be invited to attend the free, one-day pre-conference workshop at the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Denver (Feb. 9–13, 2018). Details about the pre-conference will be available in fall 2017 and will be shared during the webinars.

IACRL@ILA

The Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries (IACRL) is sponsoring IACRL@ILA—a track of programming for academic librarians at the 2017 ILA Annual Conference.

IACRL@ILA will take the place of an IACRL Conference in 2018. A similar track of programming will be offered at the 2018 ILA Annual Conference. Offering this programming at the ILA Annual Conference is more cost-effective while providing opportunities for collaboration across library types.

Visit the ILA web site to download the complete IACRL@ILA program schedule. These programs are open to all conference attendees and academic librarians are free to attend programs outside the IACRL@ILA track.

Digital POWRR Digital Preservation Professional Development Institute

The Digital POWRR team invites applications for the first of five upcoming 2 day institutes, to be held on November 30-December 1st, at the NIU Branch campus in Naperville, Illinois. Scholarships are available.

  • Someone who has been exposed to basic digital preservation concepts, but who has struggled with moving from theory to practice
  • Someone who represents or serves historically underrepresented populations
  • Someone who is comfortable with basic technology, (navigating a basic computing environment) but who would benefit from instruction on more intermediate concepts
  • Someone employed by an institution unable to provide professional development funding adequate to attend other digital preservation training opportunities
  • Someone who would benefit from being a part of a small cohort of professionals like themselves, and who will put forth effort into sustaining these professional connections after the end of the Institute

Find more details on the POWRR Institutes or to apply for hte program, please visit the NIU web site.

The deadline to apply is September 15 and applicants will be notified of application status by September 22, 2017.
