CARLI Digital Collections Featured Image: Old Library Entrance in Color

From the USF Library History (University of St. Francis) collection in CARLI Digital Collections.

The USF Library History collection was the first digital archive to be powered by CARLI's CONTENTdm-based digital library service. This collection of digital materials, produced from the University of St. Francis Archives, contains images of photographs, letters, newspaper articles, pamphlets and brochures pertaining to the evolution of the USF Library, from its original home in the Motherhouse to the construction and move to the current building across the street in the late 1960s. Artifacts in the collection are dated 1940 to 1978.

This photograph taken in 1962 shows the entrance to the building at 603 Taylor Street, which then housed the library. An earlier, black-and-white photograph in the collection depicts the same entrance during the Assisi College era. The historic Motherhouse, which served as the first home of the university, was originally constructed in 1881; renovations beginning in 2005 have converted the building into a residence hall and student center. The signs in this picture have been removed from the entrance, but the windows and door remain.
