McDonough County Historical Society Newsletters
From
Historical Society Newsletters (Western Illinois University) in CARLI Digital Collections.

This collection features Historical Society newsletters from the west-central Illinois counties of Hancock (1987-), McDonough (1982-) [including Colchester Area Historical Society (1995-)], Rock Island (1966-), and Schuyler (1969-). The cover of the issue shown here features a picture of the Mormon temple taken at Nauvoo around 1846.

The very first volume of the SCHUYLERITE contains a story of the first known murder in Rushville. The story follows the murder, the investigation, the trial, probate of the will and the execution. Other volumes include data on churches (who belonged to what congregation); receipts, children's games, cholera epidemics, how people wintered over in the days before their houses were complete; cemetery lists, how houses were constructed (by roving gangs of carpenters).
