CARLI Digital Collections Featured Image: Chicago Normal College official Seal

From the Historical Collection (Chicago State University) in CARLI Digital Collections.

This photograph depicts the official seal for the Chicago Normal College, the name of the institution during the period 1913-1938. With its composition of an evergreen tree, the Dome Building, and the word "responsibility," this seal appears quite similar to the current Chicago State University seal. However, the current seal uses the date 1867 to signify the founding of the institution as a teacher training school in Blue Island, Illinois, whereas the Normal College seal bears the date 1869, referring to the school’s naming as the Cook County Normal School and relocation to Englewood.

CSU’s digital Historical Collection also includes the monograph A History, Chicago State University, 1867-1979, several examples of the Emblem yearbook, and photographs of significant people, buildings, and events in the institution’s history.
