CARLI CONTENTdm Migration to OCLC Hosting March 2019

Beginning at noon on March 20, 2019, CARLI’s local installation of CONTENTdm and the CARLI Digital Collections website will be migrating to the OCLC-hosted CONTENTdm platform.  We expect the migration to be completed by April 10, 2019.

As we previously announced in summer 2018, OCLC has discontinued support for locally-run CONTENTdm servers like CARLI’s.  This migration is necessary so that CARLI can continue to receive support and upgrades to our CONTENTdm software.

Before the migration begins, all digital items in Project Clients will need to be uploaded to the server and approved and indexed into their respective collections.

During the migration, a read-only copy of CARLI Digital Collections will still be available for users to view and search at the regular URL:

During the migration, it will not be possible to add new digital items or edit existing items in CONTENTdm Web Administration, no new collections will be created, collections previously unpublished cannot be published, and no edits to collection home pages will be made.

Timeline of the Migration

Before Wednesday, March 20 at noon:

  1. Library staff must upload all items from all projects in the Project Client.
  2. Library staff must resolve any "locked" items in Web Administration.
  3. Library staff must Approve and Index all items in Web Administration.

Beginning on Wednesday, March 20 at noon:

  • CARLI Digital Collections public site enters "read-only" mode. This static version of the site will be available to end-users throughout the migration.
  • CONTENTdm will be "frozen" for library staff users. You will not be able to log in to CONTENTdm and no changes can be made to the items or collections until after the migration is complete.
  • The migration is expected to take 10-15 business days.

On or before April 10, CARLI staff will announce that the migration is complete.

Once the migration is complete, library staff will have additional tasks to perform before they can resume work in CONTENTdm:

  1. Submit new user names to the CARLI Office if not already submitted.
  2. Update Server URL and user name in projects in the Project Client, or, create new projects with new URL and User Name.
  3. Update any saved browser bookmarks to CONTENTdm Web Administration to the new server address.

Open Conference Calls
