Boy on Pier -- CARLI Digital Collections Featured Image

From The Jack Bradley Photojournalism Collection  (Bradley University) in CARLI Digital Collections.

This image, "Boy on Pier," reminds me of a poem by T.E. Hulme:

"Above the Dock"
Above the quiet dock in midnight,
Tangled in the tall mast’s corded height,
Hangs the moon. What had seemed so far away
Is but a child’s balloon, forgotten after play.

There is something magical about a still night bathed only in the light of the moon. Sometimes when I wake in the middle of a summer night, I step outside to look up at the sky and wonder about secrets of the night sky. What sorts of mysteries are hiding just beyond the treetops? Satellites and science, stories and fairies, winds of change, and possibly Peter Pan. I wonder what this boy was thinking about as he stared at the moon that night long ago.

From the collection description: This collection of images from photographer Jack Bradley spans a period from 1955 to 1977 and deals mostly with people, places, and events in central Illinois. The emphasis is on human interest with subjects such as: small town life, architecture, farming, sports and recreation, religion, cemeteries, politics, the homeless, the Illinois River, and country scenes.
