Access Services Specialist, Reserves - Illinois Institute of Technology

Paul V. Galvin Library at Illinois Institute of Technology is currently recruiting for the Access Services Specialist- Reserves (full-time). The Access Services Specialist – Reserves will support the library’s mission by overseeing service points in the Access Services department. This will include the evening operations of the library’s Circulation Desk and Group Study Suite (GSS) Desk and administration of the library’s Course Reserves. This position requires practical knowledge in searching bibliographic databases; using Integrated Library System software platforms such as Ex Libris Alma/Primo; and office productivity suites like Microsoft 365. Supervision of library Student Assistants is a major responsibility of this position. As a member of the Access Services Department, the Access Services Specialist provides staffing for the circulation desk, serving a diverse community of faculty, staff, and student patrons of the Paul V. Galvin Library.

Education & Experience

A bachelor’s degree, LTA or comparable experience in the Access Services department of an academic library is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

Capacity to track and recall details in a busy environment. Maintain good interpersonal and communication skills, high degree of initiative, independent judgment and decision-making skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, other departments in the library and other departments within the university. Ability to supervise student personnel with flexibility, compassion, and fairness. Demonstrate a customer service orientation to student employees. Knowledge
of library systems and programs, particularly Ex Libris Alma/Primo and SpringShare LibApps. Experience using Microsoft 365 Office Portal including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and other Microsoft 365 Apps. Experience with Adobe Acrobat for processing scanned and digital Reserves.

Supervision & Budget Authority

Supervises up to 25 student employees in the Access Services Department. Annual student hours support library operation and services. This position does not have budget authority.

Work Hours

The schedule for this position will be evenings Sunday through Thursday during the academic year, and may vary during breaks.
