101 Suggested Topics for Clinic Discussion - CARLI Digital Collections Featured Image

From From The H.E. Nutt Papers  (VanderCook College of Music) in CARLI Digital Collections.

H.E. Nutt taught music teachers. He developed curricula for VanderCook in the early days of instrumental music education. The papers in this collection exude Nutt’s enthusiasm for his topic, one could even say he was nuts about it (WAH-wah). He uses sketches, a myth-busting "half-truth series," and even word search puzzles to communicate his ideas. From the sense of humor permeating his papers, he strikes me as a man who takes his topic seriously but doesn’t take himself too seriously. He probably didn't mind it when people made cheap puns on his name.

In this featured image, Nutt lists 101 topic ideas for a clinic. They range from the philosophical to the off-beat to the specific to the inspiring:

“Why do we have schools?”
“Do you believe in, and use hypnotism?”
“Why do pupils avoid certain instruments?”
“Only ONE rule in music – make it sound good. How?”

If you are a musician at all, take a look at this collection. It will make you smile and inspire you.
