PDA Series: Why I Left the Library Profession II? - DEI Perspective

Join us for the second webinar in the Why I Left the Library Profession Series co-moderated by Twanna Hodge, DEI Librarian, University of Florida.
We will ask the panelists:

*  How long did you stay in the profession?  Why did you leave?
*  What was great about being a librarian?  What was frustrating?
*  What advice would you provide DEI and other committees who are designing recruitment/retention programs?

Dr Claudia Timmann began her library career through an internship program called SABIO at the University of Arizona shortly after graduating from the library program at the University of Alabama in 2001. A few years later she accepted a position as the campus librarian at Mohave Community College in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Claudia enrolled in a doctorate program at the University of Maryland with a focus on leadership and management and received a doctorate in management and) in 2014. 

Tarshel Beards began her career journey as academic reference librarian. She is currently the Director of the Black Unity Center at San Francisco State University. Prior to this appointment Tarshel held posts as a communications and development director, acquisitions editor and public relations manager for a  non-profit organization, library association and academic library.  In addition, Tarshel taught journalism and composition PT for ten years at Malcolm X College in Chicago.  

Michele Echols has served in various leadership position for the New York Black Librarians Caucus (NYBLC) and held the Councilor at Large for the New York Librarians Association (NYLA) representing academic libraries, and as Co-committee chair for the Affiliates of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA). Since 2015, Echols has also taught  courses at several colleges and universities in New York State specializing in Information Literacy, Grant-writing, Career Development and Reference.
