PDA Event: At First You Don't Succeed: Lessons from Two Semesters in the Credit-Bearing Classroom

Wednesday, June 21, 2023 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Teaching in any environment involves a lot of trial and error, especially when developing lessons for the first time. In spring 2021, Grace Therrell taught a for-credit, first year seminar focused on social media. The experience was trial-by-fire, as Grace had to navigate developing a full-semester course for the first time, teaching online (and during a pandemic), and tying information literacy concepts to a larger context. Grace taught a version of the course again, this time in-person, in Fall 2022.

In this webinar, participants will hear how Grace navigated challenges throughout both semesters, using reflection and student feedback to regroup.

Grace Therrell (she/her) is the Student Success Librarian for Online Pedagogy and Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She works primarily with first-year students and with students in online spaces. Grace is also a PhD student in Adult and Continuing Education at UTK, where she is researching instruction librarians’ training, professional development, and teaching identities.

Register to attend.
