Announcements:
- Schedule for taking meeting minutes
- Schedule for taking meeting minutes will go in alphabetical order, skipping the chair. See scheduled rotation in the upcoming DPVEC schedule below.
- Reminder of format for committee work
- Subcommittee work will revert to the whole committee. The committee will use meeting discussion and the list of potential topics to prioritize work.
Discussions:
- Usability sub-committee update:
- Shoot for two pain point webinars in a year, one in the fall and one in the spring, possibly market it as a ‘PrimoVE perspective brown bag’
- Fall date: Wednesday, Nov. 8th from 11:00a-12:30p
- Spring date: TBD after the fall webinar
- Choose webinar topics from the padlet from the previous webinar and/or discussion and work of this committee.
- Use the Potential Topics List in drive
- Demystifying’ search rankings and how to make them better
- Address pain points, but expand beyond to include best practice tips, value adds, and ‘demystifying’ PrimoVE
- Local resource types sub-committee update:
- Ted/CARLI is leading an NZ data cleanup team to address some of the issues with local resource types specific to audio and video (particularly an issue with records with multiple 007 fields).
- Jessica presented three additional local resource type issues identified by the CARLI membership:
- Anatomical models. She has tested an IZ solution with LLCC. The consensus of the committee is that this solution would be valuable for CARLI members more generally
- OER materials - Andrew volunteered to look into this more.
- Individual articles cataloged as in-analytic entries (an issue identified by Wheaton College). Out-of-the-box resource coding seem to display these in discovery as a book chapters instead of as articles. A suggestion was to investigate overriding the default resource type.
- Jessica will send these out through the list for the committee to look into
- before the next meeting.
- Local fields sub-committee update:
- Testing the 30ish local fields that can be added through the MARC21 method is complete. Jessica will push those out through the NZ by the end of the semester.
- Matt and Marlee are still working on editing the accompanying documentation.
- Documentation draft is available for review
- Further investigation of local fields that can be added through normalization rules is being tabled for now.
- Dedup/FRBR sub-committee update: (Background and context)
- Andrew gave context to the main ‘bible problem’ in dedup/FRBR - resources are being grouped together that aren’t bibliographically the same/similar enough to justify grouping them in discovery. This is a significant issue for music and
- classics as well.
- Jessica and Andrew will reinvestigate the problem now that new configuration options have come out since the committee’s work started on this issue. They’ll then determine if they will need to create a suppress rule at the NZ level to fix the
- ‘bible issue’. The goal is to address the ‘bible issue’ by the end of the semester.
- Springshare A-Z list integration discussion
- Springshare Integration Instructions (PDF)
- Colin and Matt used these instructions to integrate Springshare A-Z list in PrimoVE. They suggested the following revisions to the documentation:
- Edit the quotation marks in the documentation that, when copied/pasted, can cause an error.
- Add information about having ‘database’ configured locally as a local resource type.
- Add information about scheduled updates and manual updates. Scheduled updates do not remove databases from discovery that have been deleted from the A-Z list. This can only be done with manual updates.
- To promote this integration and its documentation:
- Once updated, the documentation will be published on the CARLI website.
- Lindsey and Colin (and any others interested) will host an open office hours lab report session on Thursday, October 12 from 2:00-3:00p to present the documentation and demonstrate a walkthrough.
- New business: Topic for next meeting
- Search ranking - individually investigate search rankings before the next meeting. Compile and provide your own experience, useful documentation you’ve found, and participate in a discussion focused at the next meeting to determine next steps.
- Open items
- Idea Exchange - at the next meeting, discuss and decide if the committee would like to repeat the same process to ‘drum up votes’ for issues of common interest that we used last fiscal year, or if we’d recommend trying something different.
- The process we used last fiscal year is detailed in the June 14, 2023 meeting minutes under the “Ex Libris Idea Exchange” section.
- Lindsey’s infographic from last fiscal year is available in Drive.
- The list of Idea Exchange PrimoVE items is in Drive.

- The fall PrimoVE webinar will be held on Wednesday, November 8 from 11:00a-12:30p.
- The meeting was adjourned at 11:30a.
- Tasks assigned:
- CARLI will schedule the ‘PrimoVE Perspectives’ webinar for Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 11:00a-12:30p. Once details are confirmed, they will send out an announcement of the webinar to the appropriate listservs.
- Jessica will send out additional local resource type issues identified by the CARLI membership for the committee to investigate and discuss at the next meeting.
- Jessica will distribute the 30 local fields that can be added through the MARC21 method to the NZ by the end of the semester.
- Matt and Marlee will update the CARLI documentation related to local fields by the end of the semester.
