I-Share Instruction Team Meeting: September 21, 2012

  • Minutes: July meeting minutes were approved

CARLI Report

  • The CARLI team is working on a new website, with a potential launch in October 2012. The most popular links, Log into I-Share and ContentDM, will link from every page on the new site. Two new hires to CARLI staff will begin Oct 1 (Debbie Campbell from Milikin University and Nicole Swanson from Wheaton College). CARLI staff have been busy preparing for training sessions with new CARLI institutional members:
  • Southwestern Illinois College, Southeastern Illinois College, Morton College, and Richmond Community College. A Voyager upgrade, possibly to Voyager 8.2, will not occur until next summer, if at all. Current field-testing is underway for Voyager 8.2. Patron-driven acquisition is ongoing until money spent; there are about 4-5 requests per week. The CARLI annual meeting is Friday, November 9.

IUG Report

  • The I-Share Acquisitions and Serials Team is planning a webinar for October, topic TBA. The I-Share Cataloging and Authority Control Team will have a fall webinar on copycataloging and a spring webinar on RDA. The I-Share Resource Sharing Team will host an unconference on Friday, October 19 at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, IL, registration is open. This team is also discussing new team guidelines, looking at e-book purchase-on-demand, and planning a spring forum, topic TBA.

Old Business

At its meeting on September 14, 2012, the CARLI Board approved a restructuring of the advisory committees. The following committees will replace the current groups on July 1, 2013:

  • Collection Management Committee
  • Commercial Content Committee
  • Created Content Committee
  • SFX System Committee
  • I-Share Systems Committee
  • Preservation Committee
  • Public Services Committee
  • Instruction Committee
  • Resource Sharing Committee
  • Technical Services Committee

IUG provided a draft charge for the proposed Instruction Committee. Chris will start a Google Doc to facilitate work on modifying the first paragraph of the draft charge. Input is requested from current I-Share Instruction Team members. The CARLI Board has requested the second paragraph to remain as written.

New Business

The tentative plan is to host another unconference in the spring. College of DuPage is being targeted as our first choice for hosting the event. Governor State and Illinois Wesleyan were also proposed. Suggested dates for the event fall during the third or fourth week of January. Working theme for the event is “The role of information in critical thinking,” with participation sought from teaching faculty, especially teaching faculty from College of Dupage. The idea of encouraging each attendee to bring a teaching faculty member was proposed.

Goals for our next meeting include establishing a location and date, as well as a broad theme and title for the unconference.

Tasks Assigned

  1. Provide input to proposed Instruction Committee charge. Chris will supply link to Google Doc.
  2. Brainstorm ideas for unconference theme and title and consider best dates to hold the event.
  3. Upcoming blog post responsibilities fall to Molly in September and Chris in October.
