Decisions

  • Minutes of the June 10, 2022, Board meeting were approved prior to the meeting.
  • The Board approved the CARLI Bylaws as amended and will forward the Bylaws to the CARLI membership for approval in Fall 2022. 
  • The Board endorsed the “Statement on the Metadata Rights of Libraries” from the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC).
  • The Board approved the proposed charge for the Discovery Primo VE Committee.
  • The meeting was adjourned at 1:39 p.m.

Announcements

  • The Board welcomed new Board members Jo Cates, Columbia College Chicago; Stephanie Davis-Kahl, Illinois Wesleyan University; Dennis Krieb, Lewis and Clark Community College; and Anne Thomason, Knox College.
  • The Board congratulated Taran Ley, Southern Illinois School of Medicine, on her impending retirement and thanked her for her commitment to CARLI. Dallas Long, Illinois State University, will serve as Past Chair until June 30, 2023.
  • The Board welcomed two new members of the CARLI staff, Marisa Tolbert and Martin Kong. CARLI will continue the search for a third person to be added to staff.
  • The E-Resources CY2023 Selection System will open the week of October 10. The cycle will be open through November 11.
  • CARLI member libraries will receive access to most University of Illinois Press online journal content beginning in FY24.  Details are still being finalized. Access to this content is being funded by the U of I System Office.
  • CARLI will hold several e-resources webinars this fall to orient CARLI libraries to open access models. 
  • Seventy CARLI members contributed to the crowdfunding for the FY23 Ebook Program.  A total of 2,471 ebooks were purchased in FY23. CARLI member libraries now have perpetual access to 6,200 ebooks, purchased through the program since FY21. Crowdfunding for FY24 will begin this fall.
  • CARLI has announced a second round of subgrants for the Illinois SCOERs project.  This new grant period is supported through additional funding from the U.S. Department of Education.
  • CARLI staff held workshops on Instructional Design, Accessibility, 3D Printing, and Creative Commons/Copyright to Illinois SCOERs Round 1 awardees to build expertise in these areas. Workshops are open to all CARLI members. Additional workshops may be held in September and October as needed.
  • CARLI staff has delivered 3D printers to the Illinois SCOERs sub-grantees. Purchase of the 3D printers was made possible through a grant from the Illinois Secretary of State/Illinois State Library.
  • CARLI is developing a legislative initiative proposal, “Supporting Student Success through OER,” seeking a state appropriation to support a recurring, permanent grant program for Illinois academic libraries by adding an per capita grant program to the Illinois Secretary of State/Illinois State Library’s grant portfolio
  • CARLI is planning a fourth cohort for CARLI Counts; Cohort 4 will be held in 2023.
  • CARLI has submitted a grant proposal, Consortial Collaboration for Academic Library Leadership Success (CCALLS), to IMLS to support expanding CARLI Counts to other library consortia.
  • CARLI has selected three recipients for the 2022 CARLI Scholarship: Brandi Castillo, Kankakee Community College; Abigail Johnson, Lake Forest College; and Nathan Thebarge, Trinity International University. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 CARLI Scholarship for the 2022–2023 academic year. The recipients will be invited to give brief remarks at the 2022 CARLI Annual Meeting.
  • CARLI is updating the CARLI Strategic Priorities. CARLI staff has held listening sessions around the state to solicit feedback from library directors. Meetings have been held at Governors State University, Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, and DePaul University. Three virtual listening sessions will be held this fall. Additional member feedback will be solicited at the Annual Meeting.
  • CARLI will work with a team from the University of Illinois iSchool on a data project.
  • CARLI staff will move to permanent remote status in early 2023. CARLI staff is working with the Illinois Heartland Library System to secure a shared conference room and workspace for staff collaboration.
  • CARLI opened an application period for new I-Share libraries this past summer. CARLI is awaiting final quotes from Ex Libris for all interested libraries. The CARLI Board will hold a special meeting on October 31 to review and approve applications for new I-Share participants.
  • CARLI will hold the 2022 Governing Directors Meeting and the Annual Meeting at the I Hotel in Champaign on Friday, November 4. The agenda will be available on the event page soon. Funds received from the eight meeting sponsors have been directed to support the CARLI Scholarship.
  • The Board will hold their December 2022 meeting via Zoom.

Tasks Assigned

  • CARLI staff will prepare the communications and ballot for the member approval of the amended Bylaws. The ballot will be submitted to the membership in November 2022.
  • CARLI will notify the Discovery Primo VE Committee that their committee charge has been approved.
