Decisions

  • Minutes of the September 17, 2021 Board meeting were approved prior to the meeting.
  • The Board approved the recommendation of the CARLI Resource Sharing Committee to suspend patron-initiated new I-Share requests through Primo VE between 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2021, and 8 a.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022.
  • The Board approved a proposal to issue a call for crowdfunding for an FY23 CARLI Ebooks program.
  • The Board approved the proposed membership of the Illinois SCOERs Advisory Committee and the Sub-Grant Review Committees.
  • The Board approved the plan for the Building Diversity Graduate Assistantship; namely to hire two Graduate Assistants to work at CARLI member libraries in FY23 (Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters) and FY24 (Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters). Further, that CARLI provides 50% of the funding for FY23 and FY24; the University of Illinois System Office provides the other 50%.
  • The meeting was adjourned at 11:20.

Announcements

  • Thanks to all the Board members, directors, and library staff who were able to join us for the Governing Directors meeting, and the Annual Meeting. The recordings are available on the CARLI web site.
  • CARLI is grateful to the System Office for the significant support provided to CARLI and our members.
  • The CARLI is pleased to welcome new staff member Michele Leigh. Michele is the Senior Coordinator, Open Illinois and the Illinois SCOERs (Support for Creation of Open Educational Resources) project.
  • CARLI has released the Call for Proposals for Illinois SCOERs. CARLI is working with a group of member library staff to develop the sub-grant application for Illinois SCOERs The application packet will be available in early December. CARLI will hold webinars in December and January to assist library staff interest in applying for a sub-grant to create OER.
  • CARLI has received a $25,000 grant from the Illinois Secretary of State/Illinois State Library to support the purchase of 3D printers and consumables for awardees of Illinois SCOERs subgrants.
  • CARLI is continuing efforts to consolidate duplicated data and eliminate obsolete records and named user counts in Alma.
  • CARLI is working with UIUC Library staff and UI System Office Legal to finalize administrative issues for the Institutional Repository Pilot Project for a small group of CARLI members.
  • The 2022 Calendar Year E-Resources Selection Cycle closed with slightly higher total spending primarily due to annual increases in subscription costs. There were a small number of decreases in the number of subscriptions, primarily among community colleges.
  • Several vendors kept pricing stable for this year including AAAS, American Mathematical Society, ArtSTOR/JSTOR, Duke University Press, and eHRAF.
  • CARLI will be hosting an Accessibility Forum on April 6, 2022. The Commercial Products Committee will be soliciting proposals from CARLI libraries to present on what they are doing concerning accessibility.  
  • There was insufficient support among CARLI libraries for Association for Computing Machinery’s (ACM) transformative license agreement, ACM Open. CARLI has negotiated a two-year license to retain the current pricing model. CARLI will reevaluate the agreement in two years.
  • ArtStor has introduced a new pricing model that lines up with how they calculate JSTOR pricing.
  • CARLI will offer the Building Diversity Graduate Assistantship Opportunity for the first time for the Fall 2022 semester. Through this pilot program, CARLI will offer two assistantships to persons from traditionally underrepresented minority groups who are enrolled in the Leep Online master’s degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. 
  • CARLI Counts Cohort 3 held their first session this fall, with a total of 7 teams comprising staff from 32 CARLI member libraries. Each of the seven teams shares a single project on the following topics: Consultations, Ebooks, two teams of Open Educational Resources, Library Space, and two teams of Tutorials. The content is being presented completely via Zoom.
  • CARLI members have access to a wide array of educational webinars through the Professional Development Alliance. Event information and registration are available through the CARLI web calendar.
  • CARLI will again provide funding for up to 5 CARLI member libraries to attend the Open Education Network's Certificate in OER Librarianship Program. 
  • CARLI will hold a Directors Institute via Zoom in February 2022. The program will include content of interest to directors at all levels of experience. 
  • CARLI will convene a small group of Board volunteers in FY22 to conduct a review of the Consortial Bylaws. Any revisions will be submitted to the Membership for approval via ballot. Dallas Long, Illinois State University and John Pollitz, Southern Illinois University Carbondale will serve as Board representatives. Margaret Chambers will serve as the staff liaison. 

Tasks Assigned

  • CARLI will prepare revisions to the Bylaws for review by the Board at their March 2022 meeting.
  • CARLI will work with the DEI Task Force and iSchool to finalize the library and graduate assistant selection process for the Building Diversity Assistantship.
  • CARLI will finalize and release the full application materials and instructions for the Illinois SCOERs sub-grants.
  • CARLI will contact Governing directors regarding the crowdfunding of an FY23 Ebook program.
