Decisions:

Minutes of the February 20, 2015 meeting, as amended were approved.

Announcements:

  • Joint ILA Conference: Participation and program proposals are encouraged for the Illinois joint academic, public, school and special library conference “A Library State of Mind” to be held in Peoria, October 22-24, 2015.
  • MARCEdit: Registration for the MARCEdit training sessions is open. The five webinars will take place on March 16, April 1, April 13, May 6, and May 15. The sessions are being recorded and will be available via the CARLI website.
  • Voyager Training: Watch for announcements for upcoming training for new staff.  March 19-20 is Cataloging with John Whisler; March 24-25 is Acquistions/Serials with Jennifer Masciadrelli.
  • CARLI Committee Call: The ALL committee call will be coming in the next week or so and remain open until the end of April.  5 members of the Tech Services Committee terms will be up. The Committee will be “rightsized” to the norm of 9. T.S. Committee members are encouraged to recommend/nominate interested colleagues.
  • Sage DeepFile Project: Email went out March 10 from CARLI regarding the availability of MARC records for the Sage e-journal 2007 Deep Backfile Collection.
    • For I-Share libraries: You may request to have the CARLI-modified MARC records loaded into your local Voyager database. Please read the loading and summary document available at http://www.carli.illinois.edu/sites/files/i-share/documentation/secure/Sage2007Deep.pdf to view sample records and review options for the loading of the records. Your library’s I-Share liaison should file a WRO (work request online) as covered in the loading document.
    • For libraries who are not I-Share participants: You can request the file of CARLI-edited MARC records for your online catalog or request a file of OCLC control numbers to retrieve the unedited records from OCLC by emailing support@carli.illinois.edu.
  • I-Share Next: Ted reported that 4 specification teams have been formed: 1) selecting & acquiring; 2) describing; 3) sharing; 4) knowledge base & link resolving. The teams will begin work over the next 3+ months to draft specifications which will then go on to the purchasing phase. The intent is to focus on identifying what we need/want in our next system and not to “fix” what we don’t like in our current system. Comments from the vendor webinars are still coming in. A common concern is patron data living in the cloud, which some vendors presented as a model.

Discussion:

  • Annual Project: Subcommittee’s work is progressing. The suggested format will be broken into 1) Pros and cons of shelf ready (Keith asked for any feedback on the document); 2) Notes/transcripts from the T.S. Spring Forum; 3) Bibliography (Lauren has updated)
  • Spring Forum:
    • Schedule and content was finalized (see appendix below)

Included with the recording are Elizabeth’s slides and some additional resources she has shared. Nicole sent T.S. Committee the link to the evaluations. The webinar was well received.
    • Standards for Bibliographic Records in I-Share Databases and Cooperative Cataloging Guidelines for I-Share Databases: The revisions submitted by the subcommittee were endorsed by the CARLI Board at its March 13th meeting.
