Public Services Working Group Meeting: October 27, 2011

Conference Call

Members attending: Jane Currie, Chair, (LUC), Sandra Fritz (ISL), Andrew Lenaghan (JOL), Sean McCarthy (IIA), Matthew Rutherford (NBY), Marianne Ryan (NWU), Bruce Stoffel (ISU)

Members absent: Susan Franzen (ICC), April Levy (COL)

CARLI staff attending: Elizabeth Clarage Jennifer Masciadrelli

Decisions

  • The group decided to explore the option of a joint collaboration with the Collections Working Group (CWG) on a program in June or July of 2012. After listing possible program sub-topics the group decided that they would include education on collections and instruction. Faculty Education is the CWG's program theme and so we agreed to focus on public services-focused topics. Jane will be the initial contact with the CWG. We hope to have more information for our November meeting. If this program does become a reality, our planning for fall 2012 webinar/workshop beginning in January 2012 will most likely not occur.
  • The September minutes were approved and Jen will move the September meeting minutes.
  • As there has been no further interest or support given for the policies clearinghouse, the group decided unanimously to cease work on it. Matt will delete and close the clearinghouse from our wiki.
  • Discussions proceeded with possible topics including the current public services staff reorganization at NWU as a topic for the Chicago State University open house. Marianne said she would be open to helping with the line of thought.
  • Due to the problems with Adobe Connect, a decision was made to stay with teleconferencing for our meetings unless a situation arises where Adobe Connect would be more useful.

Announcements

  • Bruce, Marianne and Susan received confirmation of a date for the Open House at Chicago State University (CSU). The date is April 27, 2012.

Tasks Assigned

  • Bruce, Marianne and Susan will continue to work with CSU for programming the Open House. They plan to meet with CSU staff in November, hopefully before our next meeting during which they will report on what they discovered.
  • Jane will be the contact for the possible joint program with the CWG.
  • Sandra will post draft minutes of this meeting on the PSWG wiki and notify all members. Members attending the meeting are asked to review and approve (initial) the minutes in advance of the November 17 meeting.

Meeting Dates and Deadlines

The next working group meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m., Thursday, November 17. This will be a meeting teleconferencing service.
