Decisions

  • Committee members will test the survey to provide estimated time required to take the survey.
  • CARLI staff edits to the survey were reviewed and adopted.
  • Added question “What Public Services do you provide at your library? Multi-select with “Other option”
  • Added question “What new positions, if any, has your library created in Public Services in the past ten year?
  • Added introductory language to indicate that we are planning a “program” in 2023 and offering that responses are anonymous unless the respondent is interested in discussing their experiences with a CARLI PSC member.

Announcements

  • Member Announcements:
    • Simone Williams (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville): The library is hiring for Scholarly Communications. This is the fourth time they have searched for this position.
  • CARLI Announcements:
    • There are several events noted on the CARLI calendar.
    • Check the Professional Development Alliance page for upcoming events. Focus on management and recruiting, DEI.
    • CARLI Instruction Committee continuing their theme of reflection and re-examination. New Year’s Instructional Resolutions.
    • New libraries joining I-Share, including Saint John’s College of Nursing plus several in the Chicago area.

Discussion

  • Committee members should take the survey to determine how long it takes so we can share that ahead to potential participants.
  • Reviewed edits from CARLI staff on the
    • Is it anonymous? Yes, but respondents can provide contact information if they are interested in further discussion. Discussed if next steps would be to volunteer for the panel or to meet with CARLI PSC member to discuss your experience.
    • We are interested in learning how library staff roles have changed over the past 10 years. Create a separate question. This may be better suited for a panel or interview format. Answers could be lengthy.
    • Discussed examples of Public Services definitions at various institutions. Added question “What Public Services do you provide at your library? Multi-select with Other option”
    • Discussed whether we should include the institution and concerns about anonymity. It would be helpful to see if multiple people from the same institution responded and to be able to classify responsese by institution size or other features.

Deadlines:

  • Denise will work on creating the survey within Survey Monkey by Monday, January 16
  • Committee members will take the survey by January 23 to test the survey and determine time commitment.
  • The survey will be sent out Wednesday, January 25 with a 2-week turnaround time (due February 10)
