Decisions

• Committee reviewed and approved minutes from May 24th meeting; Aaron motioned to approve and Caitlin seconded the motion.
• Chad Kahl and Cynthia Kremer will be the Public Services Committee co-chairs for the upcoming year starting July 1, 2021.

Announcements

• Member Announcements:
  • ICC - College will open libraries August 2nd on both Peoria and East Peoria campuses. Staff can go to offices now. Currently hiring and training student workers.
  • COD - May open library building during summer details to be worked out.
  • NIU - Library is open during the summer with some restrictions. It will fully reopen in Fall pending discussions on staff concerns.
  • SXU – Library is open and has no change in opening status for fall.
  • SJN: – Institution will be fully open in the Fall. Planning for orientation session in larger than usual spaces. Masks still required as it is a hospital.
  • ISU – Library will be fully open in Fall including all service areas including reference desk, stacks, etc.
  • JJC – For the summer, the institution is operating at 50% capacity for staff and plans to be at 75% capacity for the Fall.
• CARLI Announcements:
  • Awarded U.S. Department of Education Open Textbook Pilot Program grant for $1.08 million. The majority of the grant is for CARLI member institution faculty to create new open textbooks.
  • For the CARLI consortial ebooks:
    • CARLI staff are working to represent ebooks for the second year of the program  in I-Share (Alma & Primo VE) so that the holdings reflect what is available. Within Alma, the MMS ID will not change, so permalinks should not change. Faculty will not need to update direct links from Primo VE.
    • Overall there will be less access to Oxford University Press (OUP) and its partner presses titles. CARLI will work to remove those OUP titles from the shared catalog that the consortium will no longer have access.
  • Committee Membership:
    • New members: Arlie Sims, Columbia College Chicago and Ashley McMullin, DePaul University will be joining the committee.
    • Current members with terms continuing: Krista Bowers Sharpe, Cynthia Kremer, and Lesley Wolfgang.
    • Current committee members extending their term are Caitlin Archer-Helke, Jessica Bastian, Chad Kahl, and Nestor Osorio.
  • Continuing Education Programs:
    • July 14th PDA Event: Comfortable Access to Library Buildings by Users and Staff with Disabilities.
    • CARLI Follow up discussions after Ex Libris Knowledge Days in June and July.
    • CARLI is continuing PDA offerings, Open Office Hours, and Let’s talk Fulfillment virtual programs.
  • CARLI Counts Year 3: The IMLS grant has been extended for an additional year with the 3rd Cohort being virtual. Applications are due mid-July.

Discussion

• Aaron submitted the Summary of Committee Activities to Margaret Chambers on May 25th.
• Selection of Chair/Co-Chairs for 2021-2022
  • Chad Kahl and Cynthia Kremer will be the committee co-chairs for 2021-2022.
• Other Business – Many academic libraries are now planning/pondering their fall 2021 public services in reopened buildings. Is this an opportunity to survey about plans for Reference Desk services/ physical location in Fall 20201? Committee decided not to pursue, but members could send questions to the CARLI Public Services email list to learn more about library current plans.
• There will be a CARLI All Committee Kickoff Meeting in mid-July.
