Discussion:

Preservation Resources Webliography

  • The committee discussed the definition of exhibits as it pertains to the Webliography.  The general consensus was to focus on exhibition preparation.  A suggestion was put forward to create a subcategory to focus on online exhibitions.  Another option would be to write an introductory paragraph explaining the category more clearly.  Becky will go through the links and offer suggestions for replacement sites and deletions.
  • The group agreed to replace the link for the library binding glossary from BMI (formerly Library Binding Institute) with UC Berkeley’s Library Bindery Definition of Common Terms.

Annual Project - Interviews on Preservation Topics

  • Susan’s interview with Bonnie will need to be submitted to the CARLI office by December 16th.
  • Meghan confirmed that she will interview Moriah Neils Caruso the ALCTS chair for preservation week.
  • Nora is finalizing the questions for Jenny.  Preliminary questions have been posted on Box and are ready for the committee’s review and feedback.
  • The digital preservation topic was discussed.  It was generally agreed interviewing someone who has digital preservation as one component (but not sole component) of their job responsibilities would be beneficial to CARLI members.

  • The Newberry Library has not yet responded to inquiries.  Ann will make another overture to gauge their interest in hosting an open house.
  • Two other locations were mentioned as possible open house sites, the Pritzker Military Museum & Library’s Conservation Lab and the Field Museum of Natural History.  Should the Newberry decline, Ann will reach out to those organizations.  The Save the Date notification will be sent by the CARLI office sometime in mid-January.
