  • Annual Project 2017-2018
    • The one-page summary of the 2017-2018 Annual Project for the Annual Meeting, based on Ann’s summary blog post, has received positive feedback.
    • Final edits should be submitted to Nicole and Elizabeth by the end of the day on 10/10.
  • Annual Project 2018-2019
  • Protective Enclosures Workshop 2019
    • Date: Wednesday, 5/8/2019, Bonnie has reserved ALPLM classroom.
    • Capacity: 25-30 total attendees
      • Committee members need to decide whether to attend as helpers or workshop attendees.
    • Elizabeth reminded the committee that in order to solicit sponsors for in-kind donations, CARLI needs an agenda, supply list, and list of potential vendors to approach (preferably with a specific contact name).
      • Agenda: Mary and Bonnie will draft an agenda.
      • Sponsors: Ann will send name/contact information for Archival Products to Bonnie.
      • Supplies: Susan will help with e-flute clamshell instructions and a supply estimate.
      • Speakers: Tonia volunteered to give a talk; Will also offered to ask UIUC Preservation/Conservation staff.
  • Preservation Open House 2019
    • Ann, Elizabeth, and Nicole communicated with each other regarding distances and transportation options for various Chicago institutions, resulting in 4 options: Pritzker Museum, Spertus Institute, Columbia College, Art Institute of Chicago.
    • Ann is awaiting word from her contact at the Pritzker Museum and will contact the other three institutions.
    • Bonnie is looking into options in the Springfield area.  IL State Military Museum, IL State Archives, and ALPLM are all willing to provide tours, but are non-walkable distances and the lack of transportation options might present challenges.  Bonnie has not yet contacted the IL State Museum.
    • Elizabeth suggested a third option: Spurlock Museum and Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Champaign-Urbana, possibly combined with a tour of the Oak Street facility.  Spurlock & Krannert are next to each other and parking is available.  Krannert has a costume collection that would be interesting. William volunteered to check on both.
  • Advanced Repair Workshop 2020
    • Discussion centered on the difficulty in responding to demand for advanced repair instruction while recognizing the limitations of what can reasonably be taught in a short amount of time and the danger of teaching just enough to do more harm than good.
    • Emma suggested focusing on “How to work with a conservator” rather than attempting to teach conservation skills to non-conservators, possibly in a webinar format to remove the geographic barrier to workshop access.
    • Presentation format was discussed, and a webinar was preferred over a one or two-day workshop.
    • Ann proposed forming a sub-committee.  Emma and Susan volunteered.  Tonia proposed continuing the conversation at the next committee meeting.
  • CARLI Annual Meeting
    • Mary will be attending the annual meeting and presenting on behalf of the Committee.
    • Mary and Ann are working on the PowerPoint for the annual meeting and will share it with the Committee for feedback prior to the 10/25 deadline.
    • Anne Craig, CARLI Senior Director, asked presenters to respond to 3 guiding questions:
      • How does this project matter in your library?
      • How can this project be leveraged for the consortium?
      • What’s next for the project?
    • Mary will email these questions to the committee for input.

Decisions

  • The 9/10/2018 meeting minutes were approved.
  • The Protective Enclosures Workshop date (5/8/2019) and capacity (25-30 total attendees) were set.
  • The meeting was adjourned at 11:04 a.m.

Tasks Assigned

  • Send any final revisions of the Annual Project Summary to Nicole and Elizabeth by the end of the day on 10/10.
  • Mary will send Ann Craig’s guiding questions and a draft of the presentation for the Annual Meeting to the Committee for feedback.
  • Protective Enclosures workshop sub-committee will draft and agenda and supply list to be used in soliciting sponsorships.
  • Ann will contact remaining Chicago institutions about open house possibilities.
  • William will inquire about open house possibilities at the Spurlock Museum and Krannert Center.
