Tasks Assigned

  • Lorna Engels will take minutes.
  • Task force members should make additions or edits to the Logic Model shared during the meeting.
  • Message will be sent to the entire task force for participation in Open Education Week messages to the CARLI email list.
  • Sara will write a save the date note for the January CARLI newsletter about Prof. Jasmine Roberts presentation during Open Education Week.

Decisions

  • Minutes from the task force meetings on November 19, November 26, and December 17 were approved.
  • The task force decided that members would send messages relating to open education resources to the CARLI-OER email list during Open Education Week, March 2-6. More information will be shared via email. Sara will send a message on Tuesday, March 3 about the live-stream of Prof. Jasmine Roberts.  Linda will send a message on Wednesday, March 4 that includes what states have passed laws regarding Open Educational Resources.  Other messages for the week will be confirmed via email.
  • Continuing discussion about future OER continuing education at future meetings.

Announcements

  • Kathy Ladell has resigned from the task force.
  • There were no member announcements.
  • CARLI Updates:
    • CARLI continues to work on the ongoing migration activities. Everything is on schedule.
    • OpenAthens is now available to all Governing members.
    • Announced CARLI scholarship in honor of 40th Anniversary.
    • There are spaces open for February Alma trainings.

      • February 25-26 at Lewis and Clark Community College (https://www.carli.illinois.edu/alma-workshop-monmouth-college)

    • The Instruction Committee is planning a webinar on evaluating information on April 1st. The title is Cut the CRAPP: Fresh takes on Evaluating Information. There is a currently a call for proposals with a due date of February 11. (https://www.carli.illinois.edu/InstructionWebinar200401)
    • The Public Services Committee and the Instruction Committee are planning an in-person meeting about Primo VE. The date is not yet set but looking at dates at the end of March or early April. More information will be available soon.
    • Preservation Committee will be hosting Open Houses at the Newberry Library and the Chicago History Museum on March 27.

Discussion

  • Janet and Elizabeth finished the logic model. If anyone has comments or additions, please add to the Google document. Timing for future, plan to complete a recommendation from the task force to the CARLI Board by February 25.  The CARLI Executive Committee meets on February 26 and they set the Board agenda.
  • Exploring OER: Access, Adoption, and Application, the one day conference at Lincoln Land Community College on April 17.
    • Elizabeth sent a message to Frances Whaley on the Planning Committee, saying what task force members had noted at previous meetings that they would be willing to participate if needed in various breakouts. She has not heard back yet.
  • Open Education Week 2020 Planning, March 2-6
    • Task force members will sign-up for days to post messages to the membership via the CARLI OER email list.
      • Sara—Tuesday, March 3, Speaker at UIU being live-streamed.
      • Linda—Wednesday, March 4, Summary of laws passed by other states.
  • Other OER Continuing Education Programming
    • Elizabeth, Anne Shelley, and Sue met to talk about how it will work.  Nothing yet to share with the task force.
  • At the November in-person meeting, the task force discussed different types of continuing education including developing a multi-session course, possibly asynchronous. The task force decided to hold the discussion on that type of programming at a future meeting.

Next Meeting and Deadlines

The task force will meet via conference call on February 18, 2020.
Articles for the January CARLI newsletter are due January 24, 2020.
Report to the CARLI Board about the future of OER  within CARLI is due February 25, 2020.
