  • Website Review
    • Half of the CARLI OER site page editing is completed, with a target completion date of February 7th (February meeting). This is another push for members to review all pages for deadlinks or additions to the site.
    • Final revisions are to be completed by Open Education Week, March 6-10, 2023.
  • Ancillary Materials
    • The committee discussed companies that provide and charge for OER ancillary materials.
    • Background: Odigia approached members of the University of Illinois with a product pitch. They are a OpenStax technology partner and not unique to the marketplace.
    • As they are not unique in the marketplace, CARLI would have to do an RFP if this were to be a product for CARLI purchase.
    • The committee discuss an CARLI offer to have Odigia for a presentation for CARLI members (not an endorsement, but opportunity). There are others in the marketplace who are contacting faculty and administrators on campuses.
    • Is there something that CARLI should be doing? Or should $$ to vendors be instead offered to faculty to produce materials that are free and open?
    • CARLI-information gathering phase: low-cost alternatives, send CARLI a list of vendors to have individual presentations; the OER committee could vet specific vendors to share amongst CARLI members (prescreened based on established parameters)
    • Timeline: vendor presentations in late spring? (March - April)
    • LibreText should be a priority before approaching other vendors for this purpose.
  • Student Survey
    • The Student Survey subcommittee met and reviewed surveys from DePaul University, Moraine Valley Community College, and Illinosi State University and selected questions to include in the CARLI Student Survey. CARLI staff will share with the Institutional Review Board and include an informed consent form upon final review. The survey will be distributed statewide.
  • Open Pedagogy Program
    • This program is to support NIU faculty working on OER but and later will be presented to CARLI membership. An outline and resources list has been created later workshopping with faculty for them to move forward to include OP within their curriculum. Timeline: looking at presenting in March 2023 (NIU) April 2023 (CARLI). The planning group will meet again in mid-December.
  • CARLI Support for the OEN Certificate in OER Librarianship
    • Ten individual from CARLI members were accepted into the program. Three received full scholarships; 1 person received a partial scholarship. CARLI is able to fund the participation of those accepted.
  • CARLI Support for Creative Commons Certificate Program
    • The CARLI Program Planning committee approved the request for partial registration support for CARLI members to attend the Creative Commons Certificate program. The registration fee is $500, the Midwest Higher Education Compact provides a 15% discount, and CARLI will reimburse $200 to participants. This brings the cost of the 10-week courses to $225. There are two 10-week certificate programs available, one begins in January and one begins in June. Participants are expected to share two creative assignments with CARLI. These will be made available to the CARLI membership.
  • CARLI Illinosi SCOERs Grant Update
    • The process of scoring round two is happening now. There is still funding available for a third round of proposals. For this round, CARLI will create the 3D assignment for faculty to integrate into their class(es). Applications will be accepted for creating ancillaries.
    • Michele will help in any way possible, including a walk through the application, talking to faculty, etc. Announcement regarding a third round is forthcoming.
    • LibreTexts Blog: https://blog.libretexts.org/ : LibreTexts is creating a new open homework and assessment platform, ADAPT, is currently free for students to use. They are supported by a grant from the California Education Learning Lab (CELL) which guarantees access to all CA educators and students will be free for the next four years; that said, the platform is open and available to educators across the country. Cost when applied for long-term sustainability purposes will be very minimal.
      • LibreTexts institutional memberships allow members access for a reduced cost. CARLI is working on a contract with LibreTexts for each institution awarded an Illinois SCOERs grant awards to have an institutional membership, and then will work to offer to other CARLI members in the future.
  • The January 3rd meeting will be rescheduled to Tuesday, January 10th from 11:30 to 1pm.
  • ILA OER Awards: would we ask the faculty and library applicants to be required to attend CARLI workshops? It was suggested to make “strongly suggest attending” rather than require attendance to the introductory workshops (particularly with faculty) due to scheduling issues. Also, as there is a limit for attendees (12-15), could share recordings/materials from previous programs with collaborating teams.
