Decisions

  • May minutes were reviewed and approved.
  • CARLI will not provide IP address to Rittenhouse in order to get access to free titles but CARLI will inform CARLI members.

Discussion

  • Illinois SB 101 bill did not pass. The bill would have created a taskforce to study course material affordability in Illinois. It is unclear if it will move forward in a future session.
  • Continuing Education
    • CARLI Virtual Course:
      • The June course filled up very quickly
      • First July session filled quickly as well, and the second July session is mostly full without publicly announcing the registration due to overflow from the other two sessions.
    • Faculty OER Workshop:
      • Registration is light at this point (~20).
      • Right now, 20 seems like enough to continue the workshop but we should consider a minimum number of registrations.
    • CARLI OER Open Office Hours on June 23rd:
      • Sue was to be a backup moderator but is unable to attend.
      • Michelle and Elizabeth can be backup.
  • Rittenhouse proposal for access to OER on their R2 platform
    • Elizabeth emailed the list of titles in questions: some are OER, some are free on the web, some are not OER.
    • Column A = Access to title in question outside of the Rittenhouse R2 platform.
    • Decision: CARLI will not provide IP address but will inform CARLI members of the titles
  • OER Commons Hub
    • CARLI page and the link
    • Elizabeth asks that committee members try the process of either adding a member page or working group and tell her where it does not make sense— does the form look ok? Deadline: July 10.
  • Department of Education Open Textbook Pilot Grant:
    • The grant was awarded using FY21 money. Instead of doing another CFP, the Department of Education funded additional FY20 proposals.
    • CARLI was not awarded the full amount. The proposal was funded at a little over 1 million dollars.
    • CARLI decided to reduce/restructure the project.
      • CARLI decided to keep the staffing in place.
      • Maximum sub-grant award will now be be $60,000.
    • OER Committee members will be involved in designing the application process.
    • The grant will be from September 1, 2021 to August 30, 2024.
    • Sub-grant applications will open in November 2021 and distributed in early 2022.
    • The two grant cycles are pushed closed together because CARLI needs data and to do assessment early in the grant cycle.
    • OER Committee members should let CARLI know by the 25th if you can participate in the application process.
    • CARLI staff for the grant:
      • Full time coordinator
      • 3D printing expert.
      • Copyright expert
      • Instructional designer
      • Proofreader
