April Event Updates / Planning

  • Guest presenter Alison Head from Project Information Literacy
  • Alex D. and Alex O. both offered to assist with helping to plan and run the event (in cooperation with Merinda Hensley at UIUC)
  • A planning document has been started
    • Includes a bare bones event description using text provided by Merinda in her original email.
  • Event will likely be held on April 12, time TBD.
    • Event registration / invite typically sent two weeks in advance
    • That would be Weds March 29 if the above date is confirmed.
  • Next steps / tasks:
    • Alex D will check with Merinda to confirm the date and time
    • The Alexes will tentatively meet with Merinda via Zoom after the date/time is set to further plan, complete the invite description
    • Denise and Debbie will setup the registration link and promote the event to CARLI membership starting [tentatively] March 29

Instruction Showcase Planning

  • Planning document – Reviewed and updated the timeline
  • Collectively workshopped acceptance letters (not completed in meeting)
    • Briefly discussed accessibility considerations for presenter materials, as well as considerations for re-sharing these materials with attendees and via the CARLI website.
    • Discussed whether to elicit confirmations via email or via form. This can be kept flexible depending on the number of submissions.
    • Heather and Alex O (CC’ing Debbie and Denise) will be responsible for notifying the proposers.
  • Next steps / tasks:
    • Alex O and Heather will check with Denise and Debbie on 3/29 to see how many submissions have been received, and follow up with the committee to determine whether to extend the deadline.
    • Alex O and Heather will further wordsmith the acceptance letters ahead of the submission deadline.
    • All committee members are invited to help workshop the informational letters for accepted/confirmed presenters
    • In the April 11 meeting: All committee members review submissions, determine which ones to accept, and sketch out the showcase schedule.

May event idea (from the agenda ‘parking lot’): “Failures and Flops” workshop

  • We didn’t have a lot of time left to deeply discuss this.
  • General agreement that the committee is already pretty busy planning April’s event and the showcase.
  • Committee decided to keep this on the parking lot for Fall 2023, and re-consider it at that time depending on fit with the new annual theme/goals
