Instruction Committee Meeting- January 16, 2015

Conference Call

Decisions:

• The toolkit will contain three sections geared toward a librarian audience
  1. student learning objectives and activities separated into student educational levels
  2. bibliography of resources for library instruction
  3. content from past Instruction Showcase events
• The committee will not host a second webinar about faculty-librarian partnerships, but will encourage anyone with those experiences to consider presenting at the 2015 Showcase.
• The webinar on library partnerships will be February 26th 1:30-3:00.

Announcements:

• The ebook symposium coordinated by the CARLI Collection Management Committee will be May 7th in Champaign at the I-Hotel. The speaker for the Instruction Committee’s session will present 1:45-2:30 according to the draft agenda.
• Laura Mondt is leaving the Instruction Committee as she is moving to Massachussetts. This was her last meeting. The committee wished her well.
• CARLI report – I-Share Next Committee is working on the RFP and will soon ask for volunteers to write chapters of the document.

Tasks assigned:

• Committee members were asked to look at standard 1 from ACRL, and consider its relation to new Framework for Information Literacy. At February meeting we will identify learning objectives and activities for the toolkit for standard 1.
• Committee members were asked to register for the CARLI web site editing by January 23 and watch the video for editing instruction group pages Debbie will send to the committee.
• Debbie will check with Lorna about the keynote speaker for the Instruction Showcase.
• Debbie will send Michelle the technical specifications for webinar presenters.
• Frances Whaley will draft call for Instruction Showcase presenters for review at February meeting.
• Michelle will send out draft of description of webinar for review. When final Debbie will put it on CARLI calendar and send out registration information.
• Anne will send out possible titles for the bibliography.
• Frances and Michelle will work on contacting past Instruction Showcase presenters.

Discussions:

• Small groups for student transition levels discussing objectives and activities for the toolkit reported out.
• The Instruction Showcase will be at North Central in Naperville June 18th. Expected registration is 75-100 people. Reserved 1 large room, 3 25-seat computer labs, 1 50-seat lab. The call for proposals will have a deadline of March 13 and state that virtual participation by one member is permissible (in order to encourage faculty-librarian presentations).
