  • Instruction listserv
    • Created specifically for instruction related topics. Lorna has added everyone on the instruction committee.
    • So far there is 127 people who have been signed up for it.
    • Lorna mentioned that there was a question posted from someone in Rockford that needed an answer.
    • Anyone can answer questions posted.
  • Assessment Webinars - evaluation and reflection
    • Per Lorna Engels email November 18, 2013 - The recording of the Instruction Committee's first webinar on assessment: Knowing is Half the Battle! Assessment in Academic Libraries may be viewed here:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpTRcS-zVms
    • If you have any questions for Devin Savage, Jeannette Moss or Chris Davidson please post them to assessment-ig@carli.illinois.edu and they will answer on list for all to see.
  • Additional Webinars - feasibility & theme
    • Debbie suggested we might want to have presentations from other webinar proposals to be included in the Summer Forum.
  • IACRL pre-conference update
    • Still waiting for information about number of rooms, which impacts type/length of programming.
    • Elizabeth said that the sessions will be 1-1 ½ hours long.  Members felt 90 minutes would be needed if we have breakout sessions.
    • Lorna will send information about where and when as she receives it.
    • Proposed format of session:
      • Start with panel discussion as introduction to topic, allow panelists to address how they approach the topic.
      • Break out for group discussion among participants.
      • Need to brainstorm questions to ask the panel, which will then help start the group discussion
    • Karen Schmitt - is the keynote speaker for the morning.
    • Susan sent the description below of the IACRL session after the meeting:
      • Evidence-Based Library Instruction as an Assessment Tool
        “This session will focus on identifying evidence gathered during the course of library instruction that can be used to assess and improve teaching.  What is good evidence?  How do we use this evidence to assess our effectiveness in the library instruction classroom in a manner that will facilitate student learning?  The Instruction Committee will explore the answers to these questions and more as we examine our instruction more closely in order to build a culture of evidence-based instruction.  Led by members of the Instruction Committee, this session will begin with a short panel discussion, breakout into small group discussions, and reconvene to share outcomes of the discussions.”
  • Instruction forum update - June 2014
    • Still waiting to hear from JJC’s facilities staff. Lorna will let us know as soon as she hears anything.
