CARLI Announcements
- Annual Meeting October 22nd 10am – 3pm.
Members can attend in-person and virtually.
Updates:
- Schedule of Committee Meetings (Third Friday of the Month from 8:30am to 10am) Confirmed.
- Discussion of moving December meeting (Potentially to December 13) – Poll will be sent out.
- March 21st meeting moved to March 28 to avoid conflicts with Spring Break.
- April Meeting moved to April 11 to avoid conflicts with April 18th (Good Friday).
- Volunteer for Chair/Co-Chair:
- Shekinah and Mitchell volunteer to be Co-Chairs
- Committee approves Shekinah and Mitchell as Co-Chairs
- Sarah made motion to approve, Leora seconded.
- Roles of Chair(s) are to help to lead meetings, put together agendas, and help put together an annual report at the end of May.
Discussion
- Annual Meeting opportunity to lead a “table talk” topic
- Leora, Shekinah, and Mitchell interested in leading.
- Shekinah suggested topic “Are DEI efforts still a priority at your institution?” and prompt “Is DEI still a priority at your institution” and follow up “What kind of things are happening?” and “Does talking about DEI still feel safe on campus?”
- Blanca suggested prompt "Is your institution's library included in DEI effort?”
- Marisa suggested prompt “Who are the stakeholders and how are they invested/engaged in DEI efforts on your campus and in your library? Is there a community behind these efforts?”
- Nicole created a Box space to discuss and add topics here.
- Email invitation from the Public Services Committee to collaborate on a CARLI-wide AI Symposium in April or May 2025 on a variety of concrete topics related to AI.
- Zoom Symposium preferred by Committee
- Blanca and Shekinah are interested in leading a panel on AI/plagiarism detection tools and how they flag students’ works. Focus on how these tools are equitable especially in regard to individuals where English is not their first language.
- Community Agreement shared by Leora and discussed by committee briefly. Committee is interested in creating a community agreement for the committee. Agreement will be shared via Box and members will work collaboratively to develop an agreement.
- Brainstorm Document created to share project ideas, tools, and methodologies.
- Suggested to use CARLI Annual Meeting as an opportunity to guide the committee’s future activities.
Decisions
- Minutes of the August 2024 meeting approved.
- Motion to approve minutes by Leora.
Tasks Assigned
- The schedule for assigned minute-takers will be posted to the Box folder.
- Margaret Chambers volunteered to take today’s minutes.
- Margaret will post available notes from DEI Task Force meetings to the Box folder.
- Volunteers are needed to serve as committee chair or co-chairs.
