Subcommittee reports

  1. No further updates were offered for the Communications & Outreach, Usability, or Documentation & Standards subcommittees. Project updates will be offered at the August meeting.

  2. Digital Preservation (Laurie) - The call went out for volunteers to join or re-up their membership in the Joint Subcommittee. Of the 2011-2012 members Laurie & David volunteered to remain on the subcommittee. Peter declined to participate for the next year. Benn volunteered to take his place. The three members for the coming year will be: Benn Joseph, David Levinson, and Laurie Sauer. Laurie reported that work as continued to bring the Library of Congress Digital Preservation Outreach and Education program to Illinois. The proposal is currently with the Programming Planning Committee.

Other Business

  1. Amy presented a plan to deal with the number of test collections on the CARLI CONTENTdm Server. Currently there are 217 collections on the server, with a maximum of 300 allowed. The proposal is to remove all the test collections, created for individual institutions to use for testing or training purposes, and create several permanent test collections to be used by all member organizations for this purpose. Primary contacts for current test collections will be contacted and be given a chance to request their specific collections remain. New test collections will still be available for creation upon request. The group discussed the issues related to this plan and approved it to move forward.
  2. The August meeting will be held Wednesday August 15 at the CARLI Offices in Champaign, IL. It will be an in-person meeting, rather than a conference call.

  3. We said temporary farewell and good luck to Julia Thompson who will be taking maternity leave. We look forward to her rejoining us later this year.

  4. David reported back a very positive experience at the Digital Directions Conference at Boston, Massachusetts by the Northwest Document Conservation Center. He felt it was a good combination of tutorials and in-depth sessions.
