Announcements

  • Harper College is looking for a 9-month faculty librarian for user services. Appointment to begin in fall 2012.
  • Northern Illinois University Library has a position for an Associate Dean of Public Services.
  • Announcement of an in-person meeting to talk about consortial eBook purchasing with the I-Share Users' Group, E-resources Working Group, and the Collections Working Group. Purpose of the meeting is to gather feedback in advance of any meetings with vendors at ALA Midwinter in January 2012. Looking at the date of October 28, 2011 in a location in Champaign-Urbana or Bloomington-Normal.
  • I-Share based Purchase on Demand Acquisitions for physical books. A selected set of records in humanities and social sciences will be loaded into I-Share. UIUC will do the tech services, CARLI will own the books though they will ‘live’ in the the University of Illinois Library. The records will only be visible if a user searches on the union catalog. It is still being determined what the catalog will say that will let patrons know that selecting the book will initiate a purchase. The program will begin in October.
  • Last Copy Project is still ongoing. Internet Archive will now pay for shipping of deaccessioned items for digitization.

Old business

Recommended Number of Copies in I-Share

  • Susan Singleton phoned in to the meeting to thank the committee for the work on the Recommended Number of copies in IShare report. The Board voted to adopt a 5 copy recommendation.

Tasks Assigned:

  • Look at the draft of the Number of Copies in I-Share FAQ and send Elizabeth any feedback. (ALL)
  • Everyone should send Elizabeth their favorite open access resource(s) by September 1st. Open Access is however we define it. The resources will appear in a slideshow during the Forum on 9/16. (ALL)
  • Elizabeth will circulate a 10-question survey sample to be used for the participant survey at the 9/16 forum. We are to send her any other survey questions by September 15th. (ALL)
  • Review minutes of the previous two meetings. (ALL)
  • Lydia and Elizabeth will review group participation.
  • Digitized Book of the Month assignments:
    • September: Bill
    • October: Kimberly
    • Nov & Dec TBD

Decisions

  • Todd Spires was elected chair for 2012-2013
  • Decisions relating to Open Access Forum at Erikson on Friday 9/16:
    • Karen will give a welcome to the event & any necessary announcements
    • Jim will introduce David Gunkel.
    • Hariet will introduce David Carlson.
    • Bill will moderate the panel discussion.
    • Lydia will give concluding remarks.
