Announcements

CARLI Updates

  • CARLI is getting ready for the CY 2022 selection cycle. Vendors are entering pricing. Many are keeping pricing flat. CARLI hopes to get a firm list by the end of next week. Next Friday is the board meeting. Quite a few CY licenses are up for renewal. CARLI is making progress on these, most of which are with established vendors.
  • CARLI was looking into pursuing an ACM Open license, but due to lack of interest in this new model by member libraries, CARLI will pursue a 2-year "traditional" license.
  • Elizabeth provided an update on the consortial e-book program. Additional information will be in the upcoming CARLI newsletter.
  • There will be a conversation at the CARLI Board meeting about CARLI e-book programs going forward.

Discussion

PRODUCT PROPOSALS

HistoryMakers - The decision was tabled for another month to gather more information from campus faculty.

Annual project

  • The committee discussed committee annual projects - what they are, and what the CPC and other committees have done in the past. An annual project is not strictly required this year
  • Michele suggested that we consider a project having to do with accessibility and perhaps streaming. Jenny mentioned the accessibility webinar the coming day and provided the link for the VPAT repository at CARLI. There was a court case a few years ago involving a consortia over accessibility issues, so this is an important topic. The Instruction Committee might be able to assist in convening a panel. The Big Ten Academic Alliance might be a good group to reach out to for speakers. The have an accessibility testing website. There is language on this site regarding accessibility which is helpful in negotiations with vendors.
  • The committee agreed to focus on accessibility as the subject for our project and will work on it further this semester. We will work toward creating a series of events for the Spring, with a potential for some in-person or hybrid events, provisional to the future course of the pandemic.

Other business

  • MLA Handbook Plus: CARLI received several inquiries from member libraries about this product after a Choice webinar introducing the product. This product will have more than the just the MLA Handbook. It may provide exercises and some curriculum. CARLI may be able to broker pricing for it. The earliest it could be offered in the selection system is for the FY23 selection cycle. Jenny will reach out to MLA to see if they are interested in submitting a vendor proposal.

Decisions

  • Minutes from the August 2, 2021 meeting were approved.
