Decisions

  • The March 2023 minutes were approved.

Tasks Assigned

  • Minutes taken by Gwen Gregory.
  • CMC Annual Report
    • Elizabeth and Jen will start a draft of the Committee’s Annual Report in Box.
    • By May 10, all CMC Subcommittees should summarize their work for the year and add to the draft report for review at the May 24 CMC meeting.

Announcements

  • CARLI Update:
    • CARLI call for committee volunteers is open until May 5.
    • The Resource Sharing Committee is holding two events on inventory tools. May 3 and May 9, register online.
    • Update on new libraries to Alma: CARLI is on track to add 3 this spring: St. John’s College of Nursing, Illinois College of Optometry, and UIC School of Law. They will all be live by end of June. CARLI staff will start working in fall 2023 to add 5 new libraries including City Colleges of Chicago.
    • Public Services Committee is holding Inclusive and Accessible Public Services: An Open Discussion on May 4.
    • There will be an in-person program at Bradley University, “Prioritizing Privacy: Data Ethics Training for Library Professionals” on  May 19.
    • The OER Committee has shared its Illinois Course Materials Survey: Student Perspective. There is a website for more information.
    • The OER Committee is offering its 3 week course on OER twice in May.
    • CARLI will help with costs of Creative Commons Certification program registration. More information is available in the CARLI newsletter.
    • Selection system for FY24 open through May 12. Libraries will have to pay access fees for some streaming media purchased by CARLI in 2013. If libraries opt not to pay the fees, they can not add access to these already purchased collections later.
  • Member announcement:
    • Chad Buckley (Illinois State University): ISU library is considering adopting a very restrictive gift book donation policy where we would only accept donations in exceptional circumstances.

Discussion

  • Archives Subcommittee:
    • Completed the survey and will write up their findings for the committee’s annual report. If anyone else wants to add their comments or help with the report please contact Kris. Draft by end of May, discuss at June committee meeting.
  • Open Access Collections Subcommittee:
    • Reviewed a second round of items and they are currently being added to Alma: There are 11 new collections that will be added. Prefer collections with most titles in English. If you find an item in a collection with only small portions or a single chapter open access, report to CARLI Support.
  • Weeding eBooks Subcommittee:
    • Continuing to work through the list of titles, which have been broken down by subject. Dividing them up into historic and still relevant collections. They have a meeting tomorrow.
  • DEI Continuing Education Programming subcommittee:
    • Open discussion on building diverse and open collections on April 27, 2 pm: Stephanie moderating. Register at https://www.carli.illinois.edu/open-discussion-building-diverse-and-inclusive-collections. 73 people registered already.
  • Annual Report:
    • Subcommittee reports are due May 10; add to the Box document which will be started by Elizabeth and Jen. Subcommittee reports don’t have to be too long.
  • Short discussion of gifts policies and how various libraries handle gits, relating to the ISU member announcement.

The Collection Management Committee will meet next on May 24, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.
