Decisions

  • Minutes for December 2019 meeting were approved unanimously.
  • Rough drafts for end of year reports due by the end of April 2020.
  • Adjourned at 10:20am.

Tasks Assigned

  • Paolo Gujilde took minutes. Kelli Getz will take minutes for the March meeting.
  • Elizabeth/Jen will schedule a meeting of the Open Access Ebooks subgroup. The group will meet prior to the March committee meeting.
  • Elizabeth/Jen will schedule a meeting of the Alma Analytics subgroup. The group will meet prior to the March committee meeting.

  • CARLI Updates
    • CARLI Research Funding Program
    • Professional Development Reimbursement Program
      • Applications start July 1, 2020.

    • Continuing Education Programs. Registration is not yet available for these programs.
      • OER Task Force
        • UIUC has Professor Jasmine Roberts from The Ohio State University invited to present her talk titled, "Beyond Free Textbooks: How OER Addresses Access, Inclusion, and Academic Excellence" from 3:30 – 4:30pm.
        • Program on March 3, 2020; People are welcome to attend; Program will be live streamed.
      • Preservation Committee
        • The committee is planning an Open House at The Newberry Library and the Chicago History Museum on March 27, 2020.
      • Instruction Committee and Public Services Committee
        • The two committees are planning a Primo VE introduction program at Joliet Junior College on April 2.
        • The program is not training.
        • The planning committee is hoping to live-stream and record the presentations.
      • Created Content Committee
        • The committee is planning an OpenRefine Workshop at the I-Hotel in Champaign on April 30.
    • Pending contract and UI Legal approval, funded consortial ebooks access will begin July 1.
    • The CARLI sponsored OpenAthens webinar provides an overview of the product and its implementation.
    • Alma
      • Staff are preparing the calendar for the production load; It will be shared soon to CARLI members.
      • The project is still on target for Alma go live date on June 24, 2020.
  • Member Announcements
    • Lorene Kennard (University of St. Francis)
      • The University of St. Francis is going through accreditation for nursing with their site visit in April 2020.
      • The library is purchasing Nursing books. They are getting checked-out.
      • The library is in the process of hiring for open positions.
    • Daniel Blewett (College of DuPage)
      • The library has hired and trained new part-time librarians.
      • Planning an OER conference in November 2020.
    • Gretchen Schneider (Oakton Community College)
      • After a retirement, a position was redesigned to include circulation, interlibrary loan, and cataloging; Now in the process for interviews.
    • Keith Eiten (Wheaton College)
    • Paolo Gujilde (Northwestern University)
      • Staff are undergoing serials training.
    • Chad Buckley (Illinois State University)
      • The library had four searches underway in January and February. They have hired a new librarian.
      • The new Dean of Libraries will be Dallas Long.

Discussion

  • Open Access Ebooks
    • No update
    • Poll will be sent out to schedule next meeting.
  • Weeding Ebooks
    • The subgroup met last week.
    • DePaul library staff pulled some data on ebook turnaways.
    • Members did some literature searches.
    • Potential good product at the end of the project for guidance on weeding ebooks.
    • Next subgroup meeting is scheduled for February 21.
  • Alma Analytics
    • The February meeting was cancelled.
    • Content was added on the analytics project spreadsheet.
    • Poll will be sent out to schedule next meeting.
  • Collection Development help-consultants
    • David has approached IACRL.
    • No further report.
  • End of year timing for reports and reports
    • CARLI staff requested to move the report/project end dates early; Committee discussed and decided to have rough drafts by the end of April 2020.
    • All reports are due to the Board by the end of May 2020.
    • Any projects with products are also due to the Board by the end of May 2020.
