Discussion

  • Collaborative Collection Development Updates:
    • Education
      • Following the last committee meeting, the group sent emails to education liaisons, and they are seeing more participation, approaching the levels of last year. It was noted that even a single new participant makes a big impact, and that direct contact with librarians seems to be a better strategy for a collections project with such a narrow focus.
      • For the annual project, the Education group will update best practices and information about available titles and circulation policies.
    • Open Access E-Books
      • The results of the member libraries survey on open access E-Books are now available. Elizabeth noted that there are duplicate entries for some institutions. If multiple people from one institution responded, she deleted respondents that had the exact same answers as someone else. If there were different responses from other people, they were left in the pool of responses.
      • Elizabeth received feedback from a CARLI member library that is interested in other formats for OA material, such as Sanborn Fire Maps. The committee agreed that, while we’re taking steps to get to the point where this project could include other formats, the focus for now is on E-Books.
      • For this year’s annual project, the OA E-Books group will submit an analysis of the survey results and collection development policies/procedures.  We’ll review the collection development policy in the April meeting.
    • One-Time Purchases
      • Deb has be able to recruit additional participants. She has a list of titles purchased and will compile data about these purchases.
    • Consortial E-Books
  • Annual Project
    • See notes about annual project components in the project updates section. We’ll use the April meeting to determine what additional information is needed for our project.
  • Other
    • The volunteer application period for CARLI committees is coming up soon. We are all encouraged to volunteer.
