Announcements

  • CARLI Update:
    • The RFP for I-Share Next has now closed and proposals are being reviewed.
    • Registration is opening next week for the following and will be posted in the CARLI Newsletter:
      • Public Service Open House at Millikin University
      • Open Textbook Network workshops:
        • These will be all day workshops in three locations.  200 registration slots will be open with two registrants from each CARLI member institution allowed initially.  One workshop will be streamed although this is an interactive workshop.
      • Creative Content Committee:
        • Webinar on Using RightsStatements.org for Digital Collections.
      • Preservation Committee Open House at the University of Chicago and Oriental Institute and a workshop later this year at the Illinois Fire Service Institute.
  • Member Announcements:
    • Illinois Institute of Technology is now using VuFind 4 as the front end for their catalog, and it is being received well.
    • Northeastern Illinois University will have three tenure line positions open:  Digital Scholarship, Social Sciences, and Sciences.
    • Illinois State University has a tenure line position open:  Head of Cataloging and Acquisitions Department/Electronic Resources Librarian.

Discussion/Project Updates

  • Purchasing of Consortial Ebooks:
    • The announcement and spreadsheet listing titles available for purchase are in the works.  The “No ebooks” tab will be removed and replaced with a “No print books in I-Share” tab.  A SurveyMonkey form will be used by member libraries to submit titles they wish to purchase.
  • Education:
    • The Google doc listing curriculum materials/sets has been updated and will be posted in the CARLI Newsletter.  The working group will ensure that the list has accurate details.  It was suggested that we note the range of consortial prices in the blurb for the newsletter.
  • Open Access Ebooks:
    • The survey has been approved by CARLI.  Discussions are ongoing concerning how these will display in the I-Share catalog.  There will likely be one open access ebooks collection in I-Share, but it will be possible to limit it with facets.  It was noted that we should share what collections are contributing to this list.  It was also suggested that we need a collection development policy for these resources and how they will be maintained.  The CARLI Users Services staff would also create an OCLC Worldshare collection for these so they will be easily accessible to other libraries.  CARLI would load these records into the I-Share Resource database (ResDB) and have them appear in members’ local VuFind catalogs.  Staff are determining if it is possible for libraries to make a one-time decision to display or not display these materials to their patrons.
  • One-Time Purchases:
    • A document will summarize all one-time purchase projects, and a short introduction will be added.

Meeting adjourned at 10:23 am.
