Announcements

  • Susan Singleton announced that CARLI is continuing to review the budget. CARLI will keep up traditional committee activity, such as forums, open houses, etc., but will limit work on any big programs, such as programs that would involve paying honoraria.
  • The CARLI board will plan an in-person annual meeting some time in November. The agenda will be centered on committee projects from the past year, and each committee will be invited to present on the project from the previous year.
  • Jen announced that three new member libraries joined I-Share.
  • Niamh announced that Marianne Ryan will be the new Dean of Libraries at Loyola.
  • Christophe announced that Columbia completed a project to absorb 4,000 unique titles from the Harrington College of Design collection.
  • Kimberly announced that Northeastern Illinois will be doing a weeding project to interfile their reference collection into the stacks.
  • Chris is currently editing 2 monographs for ALCTS on the topic of  libraries and textbooks.
  • Amelia announced that DePaul will be weeding their VHS and reference collections in preparation for a renovation of the library 2nd floor next year. They are also preparing to join the HathiTrust.

Discussion

  • Chris summarized the yearly project and we discussed next steps:
    • Send out a reminder about the Google group on the CARLI list
    • Send an email reminder about the Google group to the people who filled out the survey
    • After we have more participation on the group, we’ll look at the topics and then work in pairs to facilitate a collection project
  • We discussed potential projects for the current year. Several members expressed interest in collection assessment and communicating value of collections as a topic, and discussed holding a program on collection assessment that would include a toolkit that attendees can use in their own institutions. The toolkit could be the “deliverable” element of our project
  • Elizabeth mentioned that one specific topic could be best practices for gathering usage data from the new I-Share ILS.

Decisions

  • Minutes of the June meeting were approved.
  • The committee decided to hold future meetings in person in Chicago, since all of the committee members live in the area.

Tasks Assigned

  • Jeffry and Kimberly volunteered to check the CARLI Scholarly Communications page to make any needed edits or updates
