Announcements

  • CARLI Patron Driven Acquisitions Projects:
    • For the Print Project: CARLI has spent $120,000 to date.   58% of the materials purchased were within three months of publication.  Of the purchases, 49.8% were only available in print.
    • For the eBook Project: In November the EBL project expended $69,000.00 for the month.  $69,000.00 were expended for the first three days of December.
  • Lynn announced that U of I has some 22 new positions open for the library.  The bulk are Academic Professional positions. The library changed an administrative line to allow for these positions.  They are librarians who are contractual employees (they do not have the research obligations that faculty librarians do—they are offered research and travel support) who will be doing purchasing analysis.
  • John reported that North Central finished its term a few weeks ago.

Discussion

  •    CARLI eBook Forum
    • Lynn reported on the speaker for the conference. Mike will be very happy to be a keynote speaker for the conference.
    • Elizabeth reported that CARLI is exploring venues for the conference including the Hyatt in downtown Champaign.  Availability should be settled by Friday or shortly thereafter.
    • Pam reported that she was working with other committees to provide content for the committee.  She had an e-mail from the Commercial Products Committee about a changeover in leadership.  Pam will continue to work with other working groups and committees to ascertain if anyone else has a proposal.

Tasks Assigned

  • Elizabeth will forward the attendee list to Susan.
  • Each committee member will locate five articles related to ebooks and one of the following subject areas:  Discovery, statistic gathering, cataloging, publishing guides for e-resources and educating users to be used for developing the committee’s final report/project.
  • Elizabeth will send out two doodle polls to determine meeting dates for January and our in-person meeting in April.
