Minutes

  • Matt Short confirmed to take minutes.
  • Minutes approved from November 10, 2020 conference call.

Re-envisioning report sent to CARLI leadership on December 1

  • The report concludes that we should continue with our current charge, focusing on the areas we think most helpful to membership within other committee structures.
  • Elizabeth: The Board met and thanks the committee. They will be combining all of the recommendations into a table to synthesize. Will provide feedback in the new year.

Discovery Import Profiles

  • Angela sent out a call for two breakout groups: one group to focus on repository/Alma integration documentation and a group to think about the strategic direction for the committee.
  • All committee members opted to work on Alma integration; Marlee volunteered to work on the strategic plan if someone else was willing to join her.
  • Committee decided to focus on repository/Alma integration.
  • Tricia: Whatever we create, we want to address how to bring in CARLI digital collections specifically and more generally how to bring in collections from other systems.
  • Amy: CARLI’s office will also work on CARLI digital collections integration as part of their collection development policy, so our focus should be on non-CARLI digital collections.
  • Tricia: We could develop a primer on normalization rules or develop a rule cookbook that focused narrowly on discovery import.
    • Matt: Would the Tech Services committee be interested in doing a co-webinar on the topic of normalization rules more generally?
  • Jessica joined to discuss working on Discovery Import Profile documentation project.
    • Ex Libris set up CARLI Digital Collections in the Network Zone (NZ), but the union catalog isn’t available yet and digital collections are currently filtered out of the “All I-Share Libraries” view.
    • Most people don’t want the whole of CARLI digital collections showing up in their Institutional Zone (IZ) results. If an institution only wanted their digital collections, it’s possible--we’d just have to set up separate integration profiles for each member. It should be a one time project.
    • Greer: What documentation do you think we should develop?
      • Focus on Discovery Import Profiles. Normalization rules aren’t necessary to set up the import profile; maybe those are separate efforts.
    • Hunt: will we be stepping on CARLI toes?
      • Any help is appreciated. Jessica is happy to be involved.
    • Greer: Should Jessica take lead on CARLI Digital Collection configuration and documentation, while we focus on other systems?
      • Ex Libris tried to set up import profiles for each member already, but sometimes got stuck. She has a list of members who were stuck. Only a few of the members have actually reached out.
      • Jessica will plan to join our meeting in January. Beforehand, she will document with screenshots how the CARLI Digital Collections profile looks in the NZ and put together a list of what platforms members might be using.
  • Greer: We should have a place where we can dump information and links for existing documentation.
  • Matt: If we do a documentation gap analysis, can we somehow provide that feedback to Ex Libris?
    • Greer: We could go through User Groups.
    • Amy: Use Feedback Links in Alma or send recommendations out through mailing lists.

Open Refine Workshop

  • Open Refine workshop is set for February, although there are still some details that need to be worked out.
  • There will be two separate sessions: basic and advance (focusing on reconciliation/APIs). An introduction would give people more context and breaking the workshop up into two sessions will help to avoid Zoom fatigue.
  • Staff and presenters will work on an announcement for the December CARLI Newsletter.
  • Registration and other details TBD in January.

Statewide Institutional Repository service

  • IR platform being developed in-house by UIUC based on Medusa.
  • Project presentation at the CARLI Annual Meeting. https://www.youtube.com/embed/IStASVwsRxQ?rel=0&autoplay=0&width=1280&height=720&iframe=true
  • Rollout at UIUC in late 2021, followed by a CARLI pilot project. Available for CARLI members in 2022.
  • Cost models are currently being developed by UIUC and CARLI.

Next Meeting

The next committee virtual meeting will occur on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 9:00am-10:00am.
