Minutes

  • The June 13, 2018 meeting minutes were approved.
  • Ellen was confirmed to take minutes this month.

Upcoming Meetings

  • Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. was proposed as the standing monthly meeting time.
  • The committee will hold an in-person meeting in the next month or so at the CARLI Office in Champaign. Amy and/or Elizabeth will set up a Doodle poll to determine a meeting date. Members unable to attend in person will be able to call in.

Introductions

  • Committee members and CARLI staff briefly introduced themselves.

Project Discussion

  • Matt summarized the committee’s project history, with tasks divided among subcommittees earlier on, then more recently focusing on one big project to work on as a group. Last year the committee worked as a group on revising documentation during the first half of the year, then split into two groups to work on best practices and programming related to promotion.
  • Ideas for further consideration:
    • Promotion of digital collections by the committee. The image license agreement has been sent out by the CARLI Office to library directors. Anne pointed out that this is an opt-out agreement (i.e., we have the right to use CARLI Digital Collections items unless member institutions say no) but will check with legal about how long to wait for signed agreements.
    • System analysis or recommendations. Amy noted that an institutional repository task force has been looking at issues from the consortial perspective and submitted a report to the Board last month, and that the group will likely be reconstituted to continue with this work.
    • Webinars
    • Something metadata-related?
    • Linked data
  • Elizabeth shared that the CARLI Board has just finalized a strategic plan, and that committee work fits in several ways. Anne added that although the plan is not yet available for distribution, going forward it is hoped that committees will tailor projects toward what’s in the plan and that there will be more harmonized project activity among committees.

CARLI Update from Senior Director Anne Craig

  • No news yet about the FY2019 budget, but the hope is for flat funding.
  • I-Share Next: the light at the end of tunnel is in sight; more information will be shared as it becomes available.
  • Awaiting response to an IMLS grant application for funds to sculpt a CE program, helping members use data to showcase their value to their governing authorities.

Other Business

  • CARLI Digital Collections is moving to a hosted version of CONTENTdm this summer (i.e., collections will now be hosted on OCLC’s servers instead of CARLI’s). Some downtime will be necessary in order to transfer 2.5TB of data, but no procedural changes are expected. Further instructions for participating libraries will be forthcoming.
  • Matt asked for any interest from committee members in taking over work on the ongoing Google Analytics reports.
