Decisions:

• Minutes of the March 9, 2012 meeting were approved prior to the meeting.
• The Board elected Dennis Krieb as the 2012-2013 Vice-chair/Chair-elect.
• The Board accepted the request by the Harold Washington College, Harry S. Truman College, Kennedy-King College, Malcolm X College, Olive-Harvey College, Richard J. Daley College, Wilbur Wright College to become a Governing member of CARLI as a single district, the City Colleges of Chicago. The membership arrangement will be reviewed after a period of 3 years.
• The Board approved the recommendation of the Finance Committee to continue with 3% annual percentage increases for I-Share assessments through FY 2017 (July 1, 2016-June 30 2017), the duration of the contract with Ex Libris. At such time when a replacement ILS is selected and costs are known, a new schedule of participant assessments should be developed.
• The Board accepted the annual reports from the Collections Working Group, Digital Collections Users’ Group, E-resources Working Group, I-Share Users’ Group, Preservation Working Group, and the Public Services Working Group. The groups were thanked for their work.
• The Board thanked Rachelle Stivers and the staff at Heartland Community College for hosting the Board meeting.
• The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 PM.

Announcements:

• Results of the 2012 Board election were announced. The newly elected members who will serve three-year terms (July 1, 2012–June 30, 2015) are: Cindy Fuller (Millikin University), Dennis Krieb (Lewis and Clark Community College), and Jane Treadwell (University of Illinois at Springfield). Phyllis Self (Western Illinois University) has been elected to serve the remaining year of the elected term of departing Board member David Carlson (Southern Illinois University Carbondale.)
• Terry Cottrell (University of St. Francis), CM! Winters Palacio (City Colleges of Chicago), and Connie Poole (Southern Illinois University–School of Medicine) have accepted one year appointed seats on the Board, representing private colleges/universities, community colleges, and public universities respectively.
• The Board meeting dates for 2012-2013 will be September 14, December 7, 2012, March 15, 2013, and June 14, 2013.
• No final information is available about the state budget at this time.
• CARLI staff members Kathy Chang, Mel Farrell, and Anne Hudson will be retiring at the end of June.
• The spring e-resources selection cycle ended May 31. Member libraries were offered 50 new database products, including 18 Alexander Street Press video products. Preliminary numbers indicate a 9.6% increase in the total dollars spent.
• CARLI has recently completed negotiations on a new multi‐year agreement with Springer for the purchase of the eBook content for 2012 and beyond.
• The CARLI print PDA program launched in mid-February. At the end of nearly 4 months, patrons from 48 I-Share libraries had requested a total of 186 items.
• CARLI is planning for a Request for Proposal to be released in FY13, for a consortial pilot project for e-book patron driven acquisitions that would allow participation by non-I-Share member libraries.
• CARLI has completed the appointment process for CARLI committees. There were a record number of volunteers and staff from 56 member libraries will serve on the 2012-2013 CARLI committees.
• Participation at CARLI events is up 40% over the last 3 years. Staff from nearly 90% of CARLI member libraries has participated in at least one CARLI event each year.
• CARLI has completed the migration of the production servers from the UIC campus to a new data center on the UIUC campus.
• CARLI is redesigning the website. The new site is expected to launch in fall, 2012.
• CARLI is gathering responses to the 2012 Membership Questionnaire. The Board will receive a full report at their September 2012 meeting.

Tasks assigned:

• The Board directed staff to continue the process of evaluating the CARLI committee structure.
• The Board directed CARLI staff to share Universal Borrow statistics with the I-Share libraries, and to follow up with individual libraries as appropriate.
• The Board directed CARLI staff to send a letter to the CARLI committees on behalf of the Board, congratulating them on their year's work and expressing gratitude for the critical service they provide to the consortium and to their libraries.
