CARLI Libraries and the Pandemic: Changes We’ve Made and How We’ve Pivoted

CARLI-members are invited to join panelists Mary Konkel (College of DuPage), Sarah Pritchard (Northwestern University), and Sarah Sagmoen (University of Illinois Springfield) for a discussion of how CARLI-member libraries have transformed as a result of the pandemic. Nicole Swanson (CARLI) and panelists will share the difficult challenges we’ve faced, the good changes that have emerged, and what Illinois libraries have learned from this crisis. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their own experiences.

Name

Mary S. Konkel, MLS (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee); MA (Communication Studies-Governors State University) is currently Professor and Head of Technical Services at the College of DuPage Library in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. With over 40 years of experience in librarianship and technical services, she has also held positions at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Cincinnati, Governors State University, and the University of Akron. She has held leadership positions in the ALA Video Round Table, Online Audiovisual Catalogers (OLAC), Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO), Illinois OCLC Users Group (IOUG), the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) and the OCLC Americas Regional Council. Mary is a cataloging mentor and trainer. She has been a practicing cataloger of audiovisual and electronic resources throughout her cataloging career and is a frequent presenter on cataloging and technical services topics. She firmly believes that cataloging is a public service.

Sarah Pritchard is the former Dean of Libraries at Northwestern University where she served from 2006 through August 2022.  Previously she was library director at the University of California-Santa Barbara and at Smith College; earlier she held positions at the Library of Congress and the Association of Research Libraries.  She served on the board of ARL, three terms on the Council of ALA, was a founding member and chair of the Chicago Collections Consortium, and has been active in CARLI, the Big Ten Academic Alliance, the Center for Research Libraries, the Library of California and numerous other professional consortia and organizations.  She won several awards for her work in women’s studies librarianship and for special projects at the Library of Congress.  She is widely published and consults internationally on library strategic planning, service assessment, technology and other topics.

Sarah Sagmoen is the Director of Learning Commons and User Services at the University of Illinois Springfield. She has been at UIS for 13 years and has held this position for the last 10 years.
