CARLI Alma & Primo VE Migration Open Office Hours

CARLI is offering libraries the opportunity to learn more about the ongoing migration from Voyager to Alma and Primo VE with weekly Open Office Hours. Library staff may connect to a Webex webinar to ask questions, raise concerns, and hear from CARLI and Ex Libris staff involved in the migration process.

Sessions will occur weekly on Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration is not necessary. Sessions will be recorded.


Topic for 8/15/2019:
During the 8/15 open office hours call, we'll have a discussion of the circulation/resource sharing (aka fulfillment) settings that your library will enter as part of the test load configurations.

The primary thing we would like each library staff member planning to attend this week's open office hours call to do in preparation, is to think/talk with their colleagues about how their library describes their circulation policies to their patrons. The way we describe policies to patrons is often a clearer/simpler representation of the policies, not bogged-down by Voyager-specific details.

Examples to think about-

  • Does your library have a public webpage where you've listed your policies? What details does that page contain?
  • What do you explain to your patrons for which loan period to expect, which items can be renewed, and which can be requested?  
  • What do you explain if and when they will receive overdue or lost fines, if they have a grace period?
  • Which of your library's local patron groups have similar permissions?
  • Which of your library's local patron groups have vastly different permissions?

With the migration to Alma, we will not be directly transferring your library's Voyager circulation settings from Voyager into Alma. Instead, you'll have the chance to re-interpret how your library's policies fit into the structure of Alma. This is very similar to the process we've used when a library has joined I-Share over the past 18 years, and we've brought them from another library system into Voyager.

So during this open office webinar, we'll talk about preparing your library's current policies for Alma migration, in preparation for our upcoming test load configuration tasks.
