From Railroads in the Midwest: Early Documents and Images (Knox College) in CARLI Digital Collections.

I had a difficult time choosing a single photo from this collection to feature this week because I fell in love with so many. But, finally, I could not tear myself away from these two guys eating lunch. Although the photo was taken over a hundred years ago, it feels as fresh as if it were taken yesterday.

Each year CARLI has a number of opportunities to serve on various committees. Service on CARLI committees affords individuals a unique opportunity to use their experience and expertise to help shape the future of the consortium and its services. CARLI is now seeking volunteers to serve on 9 advisory committees. Volunteers chosen will serve a three-year term, July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2018. Faculty and staff members from all CARLI member libraries, with all levels of experience, are encouraged to apply.

Being that historical and archival documents often serve as the source material, it’s no wonder that digital collections tend to be dominated by black and white. As another monotonous, gray winter nears its end, it occurred to me that a little bit of color would be nice--but not too much. At this point in the season, anything more colorful might be optically overstimulating.

CARLI is seeking interested, qualified CARLI governing member libraries to participate in I-Share, the shared Ex Libris Voyager integrated library system currently operated by CARLI and used by 85 CARLI libraries. Libraries joining in this implementation round would begin migration planning in fall 2015 and go “live” on Voyager and in the I-Share union catalog in early summer 2016. A brief summary of I-Share costs and benefits is available at from the I-Share overview page.
