Time for an SFX Implementers' Forum?
01/05/07

CARLI staff have been reviewing responses to the on-going SFX Training Needs Survey (it's not too late to fill one out; see
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=145072501635 ) and have also been looking around at the SFX customizations that CARLI libraries have (and have not yet) applied to their instances, and we think it might be time to hold a first-ever CARLI SFX Implementers' Forum. What do you think?

Some of your CARLI colleagues have done some very interesting things with:

  • the look and feel of the SFX user interfaces
  • SFX display logic
  • SFX usage statistics
  • promoting use of print/microform holdings via SFX
  • integrating (or even just dreaming about integrating) SFX with other library web services like WebFeat or CONTENTdm
  • and so on

If you think that a CARLI SFX Implementers' Forum some time in the spring of 2007 sounds like a good idea AND you'd be willing to help plan it, please go to the CARLI Volunteer page at http://www.carli.illinois.edu/comms/volunteer.php and volunteer for the ad hoc SFX Forum Planning Task Force. CARLI staff will convene a meeting of volunteer planners in late January or early February. Planning meetings will be held by phone. Additional planning work may proceed via Wiki, if appropriate.
